chicken thighs

I cooked a whole pan of chicken thighs earlier today and they tasted great fresh, but now they smell funny and taste a bit off to me. My son says they taste fine to him. Anyone else notice this with reheated chicken? I have been known to throw out chicken when it tastes off to me, but I really don't know if it is bad or just me.

You cooked them today, they were fine. Your son says they seem fine. After just several hours, they wouldn't go bad. I think it's you. :)

I'm the same way about left-over reheated meat. There's nothing wrong with the meat and my DH doesn't notice any off flavors. It's just a tastebud sensitivity issue. One thing that seems to help for me is to use my Seal-a-Meal, sucking the air out of the bag and sealing it. It seems to preserve the fresh flavor better in the refrigerator.

Dip it in mayo

I have this problem when I reheat any type of poultry. Sometimes I use broth to reheat turkey which seems to help.

If I eat the leftovers cold, I don't seem to get that "off" taste. Lately I've been using chicken thighs for chicken salad so the mayo covers any weird flavor.

I LOVE cold leftover chicken! (or turkey, beef roast, pork roast, meat loaf...)

Yeah, I think it tastes funny when it's reheated, but it's great cold.

Never thought about that...we're lucky, too!!!

yes, my husband and I think chicken tastes funny the next day. He says it tastes like wet bird lol

It is not so bad if it is cooked with sauce. Like an Indian style or Mexican style or something like that.

In my opinion leftover chicken is best eaten cold. I like to take a little Frank's Wing Sauce and melt some butter in it and use it as a dip for my cold chicken. It's really yummy and I think it's 0 carbs.

That sounds really good:)

I'm so glad you posted this. I always thought I was the only one who couldn't stand the smell of chicken the next day. Actually, I'm not that crazy about the smell even shortly after it cooks. But I've learned to ignore the smell and turn it into chicken salad or a casserole and it tastes fine to me that way.

Same here, Jeanie. I can't have re-heated turkey, the smell and taste turns me off, but I love it cold with mayo or in salad :)
