Soy Flour

I see sooo many recipes on here with almond and coconut flour. Do any of you bake with soy flour? I bought George Stella's cookbook- -the guy on Food Network who lost tons of weight on low carb. I got his early cookbook and they bake so many things with the soy flour, as well as use it for coating things to make them have a crispy coating.

What are your thoughts? I noticed while browsing his other cookbooks, he changed up some recipes to almond flour... what gives? Because I just bought 2 pounds lol.

I think most everyone here has been convinced by the research that tells us unfermented soy, like that flour, is very bad for us. I used to eat tofu and all before coming here, but now I avoid soy totally. I am not prepared to go into why, sorry, but probably others will post that for you. good luck!

I tried soy flour and found it nasty-tasting. Then I also read up about soy and found out that it was not a good thing if you had thyroid issues - which I do not, but my sister is hypothyroid - so I quit using anything but fermented soy (soy sauce, tempeh, miso etc.).

Try some and see though - everyone's tastes are different and I know a lot of folks like it!

If it taste good to you and you have no adverse effects then you can use it.
If you have no thyroid problems then you should be fine.If you would like some of the things that were made with it we have a Atkins faux bake mix. Just holler and I'll put it up for you.

I'm allergic to soy. I have used some of his recipes but I just change to a bake mix.

You can also change out the soy flour for almond flour.

I generally avoid soy too as I have a hormone condition. I do eat the occasional Atkins Bar though, and if you haven't noticed, there is at least trace amounts of soy in many things. I still lose weight.

As Esther said, if you like the flavor, and don't have a thyroid problem or other reason not to have it, try a little.

Thanks for all the advice! I'm going to give it a shot and make some zucchini muffins with it this weekend. I do have mild hypothyroidism, so I'll have to see how it affects me personally.

So can soy flour be interchanged 1:1 with almond flour or coconut flour? I've read that with the nut flours, a lot more eggs need to go into a recipe because they suck up all the liquid in a recipe. What are the thoughts on that?
