Can I sub May for cream cheese in recipe?

Hi Everyone,

I found out several months ago that I am allergic to dairy. I loved Linda's Pound cake recipe, but alas it has dairy in it..... 4 oz of cream cheese. Could I substitute mayo in it's place? I don't want to waste my ingredients on an experiment, but I would at least like to hear from others as to what you think.

My family LOVES this cake too, and I made my daughter a beautiful birthday cake using her recipe. I just could not partake of a lovely low carb cake because of the dairy:sad:

Thanks for any help in advance!!!

A lot of times I use mayo because it gives a moist baked good. I also use my dairy free yogurt in some places where they ask for dairy. It depends on the recipe.

Yes you can use it. It should work really well. I always use mayo in the Oopsies
and it worked wonderfully and they call for cream cheese.

Dairy is one of the foods I'm allergic to.

THANK YOU ESTHER!!! I thought at least it would come out ok enough to use as a crust for something else! LOL! I am going to try it tomorrow!

BTW Esther, What kind of dairy free yogurt are you using? Where did you buy it?

I don't have any issues with dairy, so I don't pay close attention- but I
think I read about someone substituting avocado for cream cheese. Of
course I don't know what the recipe was- could've been a 6th grade
science experiment for all I know :dunno:

I have a dairy-free friend. Here's what I use to sub for cream cheese in baking. Bear in mind that I have not made the recipe you're doing. It works in the black bean brownie cake that Carolyn F posted long ago.

1/2 cup Firm Silken Tofu (its in a cardboard carton, in the produce aisle near the other tofus)
1 tbl oil
1 tbl lemon juice
about a half a tbl sugar or its equivalent
1/4 tsp salt

whirl all together. you could probably cut this in half and have enough for your recipe.

I have a recipe for D/F yogurt that I got from the Spunky coconut.
Here is the yogurt. I have one for frozen yogurt too.She also has a cookbook on dairy free. I'm checking for the So delicious frozen s/f dessert aka ice cream at the store.

Emel has one for soy yogurt, but I'm also allergic to soy.

Thank you! My Walmart has only the full sugar version of the So Delicious frozen dessert :(

Your very welcome. I'm afraid they might just have the sugar version here too.
