Bullet Proof (or bulletproof) coffee

Hello all.

I am just learning what bulletproof coffee is and I'm not going to lie...I'm a bit skeptical. It doesn't sound like it will taste very good.

Does anyone want to share their experience with this beverage? Do you have your own bulletproof coffee recipe that "hits the spot?"

Yes, I know there have been several threads posted on BPC, but i'm starting this one just to generate new thoughts and ideas from members both old and new.

Cheers!

Or do you all just buy this product somewhere?

Aleina 06-06-2013 08:35 AM

Coffee purist here. I was sceptical before trying it. After the first one I wanted to fit my diet around it to get in as many as possible. Try it in miniature if you are sceptical, with normal butter if you don't have grassfed.

I know this may be asking a lot, but how do u prepare yours?

Do you do the whole butter and HWC blended like most people do (according to my google research and all)?

If u don't mind feel free to write your directions down and share. I'm sure I wouldn't be the only person to benefit from your feedback. :)

Here's the online recipe I found:

" 5 Steps To Bulletproof Your Coffee
#1 Make coffee: Brew coffee as you normally would. Make sure it’s the right kind of coffee. If you haven’t purchased Bulletproof Upgraded Coffee beans, read this post to find the best coffee in your area. Use a brown paper filter.

#2 Pre-heat blender: Boil extra water and pour it into a blender while your coffee brews to pre-heat the blender.

#3 Froth: Empty hot water from the now pre-heated blender and add the brewed coffee, butter, and MCT oil. Blend until there is a thick layer of foam on top like a latte. A Blend-tec or Vitamix blender will do it quickly, a normal countertop blender takes longer, and a handblender works ok if you don’t have a real blender.

#4 (optional) Add cinnamon, vanilla, dark chocolate, or a sweetener like Stevia, erythritol, or xylitol (this is technically a sacrilege if you use awesome beans, but some people love their mocha…)

#5 : Put on a satisfied look and enjoy the high performance buzz from your creamy mug of Bulletproof Coffee as you watch your chubby, tired coworkers eat low-fat yogurt and twigs for breakfast. It’s almost unfair. "

Okay... I just made this (can you tell I have the day off work; lol)
Honestly, it's not that bad. I've had worse coffee that's for sure.
I def. need the splenda add-on.

I guess this is a beverage that you def. have to do trial and error with until you find what works for your taste buds.

I was also skeptical in the beginning but from the very first taste I was sold! Here is how I make mine:

I put approximately a tablespoon of butter and a tablespoon and a half of coconut oil and a sprinkle of cinnamon into my cup (my coffee pot is one of those ones that drips directly into a to-go mug. This way it all melts as it's brewing and the coffee is dripping in). These measurements are for a 16 oz. coffee.

When it's done I pour it into a drink shaker (it's one of those bartender's shakers which works perfectly because it's pretty large) and zap it with my stick blender. It comes out creamy with a little bit of froth on top.

I don't bother with an actual blender, that's just too much work to clean up :p

I use a frother, and it's very simple. I do it with both tea and coffee.

I tend to use coconut oil rather than butter, but some people use both or either. Depending on what I'm drinking (coffee or tea, and what type of tea), I'll have it with coconut oil, HWC, and sweetzfree liquid Splenda. Sometimes I'll use vanilla SF syrup instead of plain Splenda.

If I'm really lazy, I just pour it all into the mug and mix it with the frother for a few seconds. If I'm doing it the way I prefer, I'll pour the HWC, coconut oil, and sweetener into the bottom of the mug, froth it for ten or so seconds, until it's holding its shape, then add the coffee or tea while frothing. That gives it more of a latte consistency.

I don't measure anything, but I probably use a couple of teaspoons of coconut oil.

I don't drink it daily, but I do like it.

I love this!:hyst: And it's so true, it feels like such an indulgence each morning.

I thought that I would loathe BPC as I take my tea and coffee without any additions - no dairy, sweeteners of any sort, creamers etc.

I recently decided to try a variation on BPC using 1 Tbsp MCT oil and 1 tsp sunflower lecithin (I add the lecithin to emulsify it because I can't bear the slightly curdled appearance of the coffee once I've consumed most of the foam).

I drink the coffee every morning now. Today I experimented with adding the MCT and lecithin to 250ml/1 cup unsweetened almond milk, blitzed with 1 Tbsp cocoa powder before heating, and then blitzed again to add the MCT etc. It was very good: I think including a Tbsp of cocoa butter would give a greater depth to the flavour and richer mouthfeel.

I just coconut oil and stevia to my coffee and use the stick blender. I was using that dairy free creamer and had to stop using it. At first I thought no way this will be good. But I love it. You have to use the blender or the stick blender to get it to change to a nice light color. I am camping right now and brought my frother to make this coffee and the frother does not get it to lighten up at all. I am drinking it but really miss my stick blender.

I found a beverage that I actually find tollerable. I simply pour sugar free vanilla syrup (Torani) in a coffee cup and add a HWC to it and mix well. To me it tastes a lot like Carnation Instant Bfast.

Anyone else have a beverage they've created using hwc?

flossie73 06-17-2013 10:26 AM

I made this for the first time myself this morning.

Ha ha ha... I guess I'm the laziest of all... I just dropped about half a Tbsp butter into my mug, poured on the coffee, let the butter melt, added a few drops liquid stevia and h&h.

What I read was that this should help tone down your appetite. But I felt as hungry as usual. I'll give it a go a few more times, I guess. Taste and texture wise, I don't find it to be anything special, nor do I think it's horrible. I take a while to drink a mug of coffee, so it gets cool before I'm done. There were a few bits of re-solidified butter that kind of threw me off near the end.

Nice. Let us know if it eventually tones down your appetite.

I dont remember where I can across this recipe and I have modified it a tad.
In the TAll magic bullet cup or a blender, add 1.5 c hot coffee, 1 tbs unsalted butter, 1 tbs coconut oil, a scoop of vanilla whey protein powder and an egg. Careful if using a magic bullet as the hot air can cause the hot coffee to blow through the seal!! I use a magic bullet but will blend for a sec then tighten the lid. I do this a few times until blended. I add splenda at the end as I tend to drink my coffee pretty sweet. Also once the egg goes in move fast, you dont want scrambles eggs. The whey and egg make this drink so creamy and filling!

Finally, I created a BPC recipe my taste buds can tolerate

Okay, it took me a month, but I have "created" a version of BPC that my tastebuds can tolerate.

Should anyone be interested/still looking for a BPC recipe that their tastebuds like or I should forget how I made this [LOL] here it is

coffee
1 tablespoon of butter (parkay was mine)
Heavy Whipping Cream
Torani sf vanilla syrup
1-2 packets of Truvia

*Note: Truvia is 3g carbs per packet

I actually like Truvia *knock on wood* so far there is no yucky after-taste that splenda would always give me.

Happy Low-Carbing folks!

TRUVIA is only 1 carb per packet according to the box in my cabinet.

Love this stuff. It's my weekday breakfast and keeps me until at least mid- to late morning and sometimes even longer. Mine's simple:

1 cup flavor-of-the-day (Keurig K-cup or ground)
1 T real butter
1 T coconut oil
Couple pumps of sf syrup

I bought an immersion blender and blend gently until it's all mixed up. Sometimes I'll add a little HWC, too. This is so :yummy: !

speds 10-07-2013 02:45 PM

Isn't Parkay margarine? Please don't use margarine- that's just poison...

If it's got more than cream and salt, it's poison no matter what brand!!!

GME 10-09-2013 05:03 PM

I bought a little battery-operated, hand-held frother and used it for the first time this morning. It didn't blend as well as the blender, but the ease of clean-up makes it well worth the trade-off.

(That is sure a lot of hyphenated words)

I tried it in the Magic Bullet and the blade part sealed TIGHT to the cup and I couldn't get it off (nor could the three menfolk in my house) until it cooled. It was already making me nervous to pour hot coffee in the plastic cup so I just quit and waited for the frother to come.

I add butter and MCT oil -or- coconut oil and cream. I like it without sweetner oddly enough.

Dirty Harriet 10-09-2013 05:36 PM

Parkay is margarine....and only one molecule chemically from plastic!!

luckymuma 10-14-2013 03:49 AM

I tried it last week and it made me very sick. I have been doing Atkins for over 9 years but for some reason all that oil totally threw me for a loop. Wasn't better till all of it was gone. KWIM?

My 'recipe' as well...don't even blend it. I stir it up and pour over ice.
