Becoming paranoid: Is Cheese causing a stall in my weight loss?

Hello all.

I am now officially 2 months into my Atkins plan. I am surprised i have kept up with it this long and how suprisingly easy it has been. Everyday I write down my carb intake and make sure that I stay at or under 20g/net carb grams (I'm doing prolonged Induction b/c I really want to lose some much needed weight).

My "problem" though is this... I personally am not seeing any changes in my appearance for the past 2 weeks now.I do not own a scale so I can't weigh myself at the moment. Needless to say I'm becoming paranoid. I am wondering what if anything has caused this "stall" for me.

Could it be my body has become adjusted to 'surviving' on 20g after these 2 months? Or is it something I'm eating. After 3 days research, it does seem that I have cheddar cheese in 3 of the 4 meals I eat during the day. Can cheese cause a stall in your weight loss.

Any feedback or help or suggestions or non-cheese dependent recipes to help me get past this hurdle would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think it's the cheese. I think it's your body catching up with your weight loss. I know I can go forever wearing the same size, then I lose 2 pounds and BAM! I'm down 2 sizes. I don't know why it happens but it does.

Just hang in there and keep doing what your doing. The rest will happen in due time.

Thanks. I appreciate the words of positive encouragement.

It might be the cheese, but more likely it's that your body needs a bit of time to catch up. It's normal to slow down a bit here and there, then have a little whoosh and notice a difference again. Nothing to worry about, IMO.

Yes, I have noticed the "sudden loss" effect with Atkins. I can go a week being a bit discouraged and unhappy with seeing no evidence of change. I'll go to bed and wake up the next morning and wouldn't you know it something happens like my watch is looser on my wrist (that actually happened recently) or I swap my traditional belt that I have been wearing, with one in the back of the closet that ended up being too small last summer when I bought it, but now fits just fine (that happened this week).

See? You have seen progress in these two weeks.

Look for other unexpected things, like your necklace to hang lower, or your ring to fly across the room. I've experienced both of those. Someone else said that their boots got loose at the ankles.

Cheese does stall some people. You could try giving it up for a few days to see if anything changes.

Remember, too, that Dr. Atkins defines a stall as "no loss of weight OR INCHES for at least 6 weeks" IIRC. Or maybe 8 weeks? Anyway, it's a while.

If you don't have scales, then start taking your measurements. Write them down, retake them every week at the same time, more or less, and you'll see why a lot of folks say that the scales lie when it comes to weight loss.

I think Dr. A also said not to eat more than 2 to 3 ounces a day of cheese? I'm rusty on the numbers because I haven't read the book in a while. Might not be a bad plan to re-read it and see what you think.

And yeah, if it IS a stall, change ONE THING at a time or you'll never know what caused it! But two weeks does NOT a stall make!

Hang in there, follow the plan to the letter, stick with induction for a while if you like, and you'll surely see results!

She's not in a stall; she's clearly losing.

I don't see the point of changing anything when what she's doing is working.

Hi Kelly Nice to meet you.

I know what you mean about feeling like nothing's moving, then having sudden movement. I'm happy you aren't in a stall. Yay!

I found out by accident that if nothing was moving for a period of weeks, having a day here or there where I had a bit more carbs, or 200-300 more calories, seemed to get things going again. I think it is like exercise perhaps. If you keep doing the same exact thing, the body can get in a rut. Shake it up, and you'll see movement. At least that has helped me.

Tracy

I'm so sorry! You even put that in your details.

It's funny, here, the default assumption is female. On two of my other boards, the default assumption is male. I make it very clear that I'm female on those boards (with photo avatars and everything), and it happens to me still. Sorry about that.

nice to meet you, Kelly.

Nice to meet you both Smiles and Ntombi! Thank you.

I must say that I find this site very informative and addicting. The support, advice, and "vent sessions" on here really does the body and soul good.

Thanks to everyone who has responded and talked to me so far!

Definitely measure! I was feeling bummed this Monday, my normal weigh day because I was up 1lb. But I decided to check my measurements this morning... I started week 4 on Monday, and in the last 3 weeks, I'm down 12.5 inches! That's over a FOOT! And it's my TOM, too (a perpetual one that's lasted over 2 weeks, ughhh!). But FOUR inches off my waist, 3 under my bust, and 3 off my hips-- these are the biggest changes. in THREE weeks. Don't get too worried! Changes are happening because you're staying OP. Keep it up!

Thanks.
I'm just going to continue doing what I'm doing, b/c I'm obviously on the right track. Down a pant size in two months. Not bad for a 29 yo guy.
