coconut cream questions

What do you do with coconut cream? And once the container is open, how long will it be good? Can it be frozen if not using the whole thing?

I believe it's like coconut oil and doesn't need to be refrigerated. You should look at your brand's web site for the shelf life in the FAQ section. Nutiva's coconut manna shelf life is 1 year, which I just looked up.

I mostly use it when making Ouizoids English Muffins, which I use for my toast, bread and hamburger buns. It has to be refrigerated after opening and I put it in small containers in the freezer as it does spoil after awhile..................... Ann

Which brand do you use Ann? In my web search I found some brands said to refrigerate and others said not to.

Coconut cream should be refrigerated. It will go bad if its not refrigerated. Unless you are talking about the hard cream that is sometimes called butter or concentrate. The terms can be confusing. Liquid coconut cream/milk should be refrigerated. You can also freeze it if you are not going to use all of it. When I was young, my family made coconut milk or cream from scratch, any unused portions were frozen for later use.

As with most food items, "Refrigerate after opening". Keeps for quite a long time in the fridge opened, however.

Terry, I have Roland brand. They had a good deal at Big Lots and I stocked up. I just got out a can and it doesn't say refrigerate after opening, but I always have. It didn't occur to me not to. Since it does go bad in the fridge after awhile, I'm sure it would do so quicker if not refrigerated............................. Ann
