How do you make your bulletproof coffee?

Just wondered how everyone made theirs? I don't have a coffee maker or anything like that, I usually just have instant coffee. Do I need to buy something different? And what do you add in to yours please?

kiwistars 03-29-2013 12:39 AM

The idea makes me nervous so I haven't tried it.What does it taste/feel like with oil in it?!

I know I am being a wuss and it would be great when I am busy and only have time for an instant coffee, but...

Ntombi 03-29-2013 01:12 AM

I have no idea how it would work with instant coffee, but I make it with both coffee and tea. It'll probably be okay with instant.

I add coconut oil, and use a frother for about 15 seconds. Before I had a frother, I used a spoon, but that didn't incorporate it fully. It was still okay, but the frother helps keep it mixed while I drink it.

ETA: I use virgin coconut oil, so it does add a slight hint of coconut. I don't mind it. People who don't like that use refined CO.

I haven't tried it either, I just know loads who say it is great to have first thing on a morning and it keeps you full of energy and going for hours.

I normally exercise first thing on an empty stomach and grab breakfast at work. I'm thinking I would have time to squeeze in a bullet proof coffee and see how it effects my workout.

Thanks, guess I can just give it a go :) I have a hand blender so will try that.

I don't mind coconut at all, one of my favourite flavours but hubby hates it so guess I will try and find some refined CO to start with :)

I only have one cup of coffee a day but I add 1 tbsp CO, 2 tbsp HWC and 2 squirts of DaVinci syrup. It is yummy and it keeps me full for hours. I leave a teaspoon in the cup so I can keep stirring in the CO so it doesn't taste oily. This is the one treat I look forward to every day!

snowdancer79 03-29-2013 06:11 AM

I just dump a tablespoon of coconut oil and a liberal pour of HWC in my cup The first time I tried it, I was a little skeptical, but I absolutely love it now.

jandjsmom 03-29-2013 07:04 AM

Drinking it right now! I melt 1 T. butter, 1T. CO and 2T HWC in a small bowl. Then use my magic bullet to whip it all up. Pour into a cup of hot coffee and it is DELISH!!!! I couldn't handle the oil slick on top of the coffee and whipping it allows it to fully incorporate into the coffee. It is so creamy and yummy. Better than Starbucks anyday!!

Stardust 03-29-2013 10:19 AM

Ooooh, sounds delicious! I've ordered some coconut oil online today, hope it doesn't take too long to come.

Do you think I would be able to whip it up with a hand blender?

Brendajm 03-29-2013 06:36 PM

I mix up about half a tbsp of coconut oil with my coffee and some stevia. No cream needed. Mix up with big blender or a stick blender. It turns the coffee a light brown color like it has cream in it. I love it. It is SO good. I never use creamer anymore. But you must use a blender or stick blender to get it to mix up really good and stay mixed. I can't stand stirring in in a cup with a spoon. Try it in a blender and you will be hooked. I even get a nice froth on top after mixing in the blender.

I make mine with 1.5 c hot coffee, 1 tbs butter, 1 tbs coconut oil, a scoop of vanilla whey powder, then I crack an egg so it sits on top of the powder so it doesnt start to cook. I quickly get it blended and it is so yummy and I got lots of good stuff to keep me going for hours! I wasnt sure about the raw egg but it just makes it creamy and rich.

The originator of the Bulletproof coffee sells $18/lb., organic, fair-trade, mold-free, fresh-roasted coffee on his website to make Genuine Bulletproof Coffee. He might faint if he knew you were using instant coffee. I'd pay to watch that. I know he's looking to make money off his invention, but still...he's taken it to a rather silly place. He developed the idea after drinking Tibetan butter tea. (I've tried adding butter to tea - Yogi Hazelnut Vanilla tea is amazing with butter in it!)

I echo the recommendations of using a blender or magic bullet to incorporate all the fat into the drink without the oil slick. I'm trying to cut back on my cream, so right now i'm using coconut milk and butter together in my coffee. Tastes pretty darn good with pumpkin coffee.

I had thought that bulletproof had to have butter and if so, then mine doesn't qualify...but I love my coffee more than absolutely anything else and it pretty much has become my breakfast!

I have one of those slender thermos like stainless steel canister coffee cups that you can shake up.....so I put in about 2 to 3 tbl. Nutiva Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil and some heavy whipping cream (i never measure any of it) and shake that sucker up. It is like the smoothest, creamiest latte in the world...I can no longer live without it:love:

Ntombi 03-30-2013 02:21 AM

No, just a healthy fat.

Brendajm 03-30-2013 05:51 AM

I blew the coffee right thru my magic bullet. The hot coffee caused too much steam and cased it to leak right out the bottom thru the motor.
Marieze I woul like to see what you r using. You just shake it up? No leaking??

Patience 03-30-2013 07:29 AM

What is HWC . . . I am new and haven't sorted the lingo.

Soobee 03-30-2013 07:42 AM

Heavy whipping cream.

Patience 03-30-2013 07:45 AM

thanks, sounds obvious now that I know.
yum.

Here's my bulletproof tea. A frother is an inexpensive option, if you don't want to use a blender. Mine was $20, and works very well. Heck, Ikea sells them for $1.99, but I've heard mixed quality reports (shocking, I know!).

Brendajm 03-30-2013 06:35 PM

I tried my frothier and it did not do a good job. No froth at all.
