help me remember

I remember a substitute being mentioned for apples....it had a foreign sounding name....but for the life of me I can't remember the name.

Never tried it, (never liked it as a kid) but I've read posts that use Chayote as apples.

Oh yes chayote squash is wonderful. I just sent my sister 3 to make apples . Here is 1 of many thread for chayote squash.

If you can't find the s/f cider you can use apple tea for flavoring and then add sweetner.

Chayote (chie-OH-tay) is a dandy substitute. I've also used peeled and seeded cucumbers or zucchini for apples.

I use chayote for cooked versions and jicama fir uncooked. Jicama is great in Waldorf salad.

I've used chayote and jicama for "apples" and both work pretty well.
