I need a replacement for milk powder?

I see a few recipes that call for milk powder or powdered milk. Can I use something else in its place or do I really need the pwd milk?

THanks

in Gina's yellow cake recipe on the Fantastic Flour Thread, I used heavy cream mixed with water instead of powdered milk. Worked great. Actually, worked even better since I always seem to need more liquid in the BTF recipes.
