Whole Milk Powder in place of Whey Protein Powder?
Happy Sunday morning! I've been searching the archives for a while now and am still not sure if I can equally substitute whole milk powder for whey protein powder in recipes? Any advice would be appreciated! TIA! :shake:

there's no reason to think that would work--they are pretty different products. the whole milk powder is more or less equally carbs, fat, and protein, with the carbs leading at 38%. the whey is obviously all protein.

having said that, a lot of the recipes here that use it are very "approximate" and the ingredients can be varied a lot without getting something inedible. if you want to try it, try it!

It might work, if you're just looking for a "bulking agent" and not to increase the protein. But, as was mentioned, the milk powder is probably a bit carby if you're using a lot.

Hmmmm, now you've got me thinking. I wonder if I could substitute whey protein FOR skim milk powder in an Indian Sweet Recipe.

It's basically just HWC, Skim Milk Powder and Sugar. I have successfully subbed the sugar with Swerve and Stevia. But now I'm wondering if I could use an inexpensive Whey protein concentrate in place of the Skim milk powder.

Thanks for your help, ladies! Soobee, here's what I was making, and it ended up being too runny, so added some almond flour and a bit more BP, so they were okay!

Pumpkin Pancakes, Low Carb
Nutrition Info
Calories: 432.2
Fat: 37.3g
Carbohydrates: 9.4g
Protein: 18.1g
Ingredients3 oz softened cream cheese
2 eggs
2 tablespoons coconut milk
1/4 cup pumpkin
1/2 tsp molasses
1 scoop of Whey Protein Powder
1/2 tsp Stevia or liquid equivalent
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
Pinch salt
Coconut oil for frying
1. Soften the cream cheese in a glass bowl in the microwave for 20 seconds.

2. Add the eggs, pumpkin, coconut milk, molasses, & liquid Stevia, if using; mix until well with a fork until blended.

3. If you're using granular Stevia, combine it with the dry ingredients instead of the wet. In a small bowl, mix the remaining ingredients.

4. Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and stir until combined. Scrape down the batter.

5. Heat griddle to medium high on stove with about a tablespoon of coconut oil. Spoon about a 1/4 cup of the batter onto the griddle for each pancake. Fry for about 2 minutes per side. Serve immediately with sugar- free syrup and whipped cream.

Serving Size: Makes 2 servings

Sounds as if you compensated admirably. Now that you know that it is too liquidy, you could try any of our drying ingredients like oat fiber or coconut flour.
