Any BBQ Sauce Recipe Ideas from Sugar-Free Ketchup?

It seems like it would be easy to make sugar-free BBQ sauce from sugar-free ketchup. Add sweeteners, and then what would I add to make it taste like BBQ sauce?

Please help with ideas. Thank you.

1 bottle sugar free Heinz ketchup, 1 can Pepsi One, 1.5 tbsp apple cider vinegar, 1/3 cup each A1 sauce and worsteshire sauce (sp) garlic and onion powder to taste. Simmer about 20 minutes. I like to add about a tbsp of garlic chili sauce when I'm basting baby back ribs.

Ha, Pepsi One - cool! It reminds me of the time I made BBQ pork shoulder in a crock pot with root beer! Ah, I've got to try your recipe!

My stomach is growling just thinking about this!

1/4 cup sugar free ketchup
3 TBS. apple cider vinegar
1 TBS. Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp. brown sugar substitute.......if you don't have brown sweetener, I think nectresse sweetener will work.
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 tsp. black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat.

I don't have a recipe, but only thing I'd think about is if you can add a can of tomato paste which I believe is lower in carbs than the SF ketchup, so it could make a larger batch with fewer carbs?

I've tried making a few BBQ sauce recipes that have ketchup in them and they didn't taste quite right to me. The spices in ketchup didn't provide the flavor I was looking for. Ketchup works great in sweet and sour sauces, but I don't care for it in BBQ sauce. I agree with stewcarol about using tomato paste as a base because it doesn't have any seasonings already in it and it's cheap. Here's my favorite recipe:

MY FAVORITE BBQ SAUCE
6 ounce can tomato paste
1 1/2 cups water
1/4 cup white vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup granular Splenda or equivalent liquid Splenda
2 teaspoons blackstrap molasses
2 tablespoons liquid smoke
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/2 teaspoon xanthan gum, optional

If you're going to use the xanthan gum, combine it in a small bowl with all of the dry spices. Whisk everything together in a medium pot. Cover and simmer 30-60 minutes, whisking occasionally to keep it from sticking to the bottom of the pot. Cool, then pour into a glass pint canning jar and store in the refrigerator. It will keep for several weeks or more.

Makes 2 cups

With granular Splenda:
Per 2 tablespoons: 17 Calories; trace Fat; 1g Protein; 4g Carbohydrate; .5g Dietary Fiber; 3.5g Net Carbs
Per 1/4 cup: 34 Calories; trace Fat; 1g Protein; 8g Carbohydrate; 1g Dietary Fiber; 7g Net Carbs

With liquid Splenda:
Per 2 tablespoons: 14 Calories; trace Fat; 1g Protein; 3g Carbohydrate; .5g Dietary Fiber; 2.5g Net Carbs
Per 1/4 cup: 28 Calories; trace Fat; 1g Protein; 6.5g Carbohydrate; 1g Dietary Fiber; 5.5g Net Carbs

Jen's low carb barbeque sauce

3/4 cup Heinz reduced sugar ketchup (12)
2 T Heinz Worcestershire sauce (about 2)
1/4 cup Regina white wine vinegar (about 2)
1/2 cup Great Value beef broth
1 pkt Sweetleaf (rare that I use straight stevia but it works great here)
1 t onion powder
1 t garlic powder
1 T mustard
1/2 t liquid smoke
pepper to taste

Put in a very small saucepan and simmer gently. When cooked down to 1 cup it has about 1 carb per T.

I love this most with shredded cooked chicken stirred into it, put on large lettuce leaves and then topped with creamy coleslaw and sprinkled with celery seed. YUM!!!!

I have some straight stevia too...I don't like it straight up, either.

i recommend the Guys award winning BBQ sauce sold here on netrition, that is some good stuff, the spicy and regular are both delicious----my homemade never turns out--not tasty enough for me----

My Favorite BBQ Sauce
1 c. ketchup
1/4 lb. bacon, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
2 T. yellow mustard
2 T. vinegar
5 T. chili sauce - this is a little carby.
Salt, pepper and sweetener to taste

Fry the onion and bacon together. Drain off most of the grease. Add the remaining ingredients and combine well. Simmer for a few minutes.

I just made this tonight - it was absolutely the best bbq sauce i've ever had lc or not. sweet, tangy, smoky. i cut the recipe in half to get approximately 3 cups sauce.

INGREDIENTS:
2 cups low carb ketchup (i used heinz)
2 cups tomato sauce
60 drops clear stevia
1/4 cup erythritol
1 1/4 cups red wine vinegar
1/2 cup unsulphured molasses
2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
4 teaspoons hickory flavored liquid smoke
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper
DIRECTIONS:
In a large saucepan, over medium heat, mix together all the wet ingredients and then add the seasonings. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat to low and simmer for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce will thicken as it simmers (and then as it cools).

I found the high sugar recipe on the all recipes site - it was called Big Al's Kansas City BBQ sauce. (with over 800 positive reviews) I adapted it by subbing stevia clear for the brown sugar. The recipe was a bit higher in carbs due to the molasses, but you could probably back off a bit on that ingredient and still have a mighty fine bbq sauce that rivals anything you can buy in the store SANZ the high fructose corn syrup!!

Hi. This makes a small batch but it sure is tasty. You don't have to cook it if you don't want, though it does deepen the flavor a bit.

LORI’S LOW CARB BBQ SAUCE
1/2 cup low carb ketchup
1/6 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup splenda
1 tsp hickory flavored liquid smoke
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp worcestershire sauce
2 dashes cayenne powder
Combine the ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until ingredients are well combined and bring to a boil. Then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 15-20 minutes. Keep leftover sauce refrigerated in an airtight jar.

Not sure how many carbs are in a TB of this but it can't be much considering the ingredients. I know it sure smelled good cooking on my baked chicken and tasted pretty good too. Not quite Sweet Baby Ray's but close enough! Good in and on meatloaf too.
