Oooo, lucky you! When I used to buy all my eggs at the farmer's market, I'd get the jumbos and get about half double yolks. The guy who sold them told me that the big ones come from the older hens and they have more of a tendency to lay the doubles than the younger hens. Interesting!

Did you know that women over 30 also have a higher chance of ovulating 2 eggs at a time, thus fraternal twins? I read that in a fetility book once. It is interesting!

OMG! These things are so good!! I called my uncle and he said he has a whole flat of them I can have! The double yolks make for a big filling for the deviled eggs. Yum!

I did NOT know that - but it doesn't surprise me! He said that as the chickens age, their egg-making mechanisms don't work quite as well as they once did, hence the double yolks.

They're also more prone to lay the eggs with the blood spots on them. It doesn't HURT anything but it's kind of offputting when you crack an egg and find that in there!
