substitute for honey in a bread recipe?

I am trying to make a almond flour bread recipe. All the ingredients are low carb except for honey. Can I use splenda instead? It asks for 1 tbsp of honey.

I would just use an equal amount of sugar-free maple syrup. Most recipes call for 1/4c. or less, so little I doubt the maple taste will come through using that little.

I think the only syrup I have is davinci's pancake syrup. would that work?

honey adds sweetness and a little something else that helps with texture. probably you are fine with a couple drops of EZsweetz or something like that. you might want to get some low carb honey for this sort of situation. Netrition has a couple.

There's maybe a little more to the story ... If it's a yeast based bread, you might actually NEED to keep the actual honey in the recipe. If it's not a yeast leavened bread, then ... any of these other suggestions are totally fine.

Yeast needs some form of sugar in order to make breads rise. Yeast can't eat "sugar free sugar" to create alcohol and carbon dioxide. So, if you omit the honey, the bread may not rise as much. On the plus side ... if it's a yeast leavened almond bread and you add a small amount of honey, the yeast eats most of the honey, leaving really only trace carbs behind.

Again, if there's no yeast, though ... just use a small amount of splenda, sugar free pancake syrup, sugar free honey, etc.
