If you miss hot cereal for breakfast . . .
I think I finally hit on the perfect substitute for my much missed morning oatmeal:
Pinch of Salt
2/3 cup of water
1/8 cup of ground flax meal
1/8 cup of hemp hearts (you can buy these at health food stores like WF)
Chopped nuts (optional)
Boil the water in a deep microwavable bowl with the salt. Dump the ground flax meal and hemp hearts in the boiling water all at once, and stir to avoid lumps. Microwave at 30% power for 2 minutes. You can probably do this on the stovetop too, just stir until thickened.
Add nuts or other add-ins (unsweetened coconut flakes, coconut oil or butter, nut butter, protein powder, cream cheese, etc.) as desired.
Pour a little cream or coconut milk on top and eat hot. YUM! It's very filling.
Without the add-ins: 58 calories, total carbs 2, fiber 2.5, (net 0 carbs), 3.2 g protein. Is that awesome or what????
