Homemade gummy candy

I've seen recipes on here somewhere for gummy candy that is made with gelatin. Does anyone know if this candy has to be refrigerated after it's made, or can it sit out at room temperature? I'm wanting to make some for a road trip, so just wondering if I need a cooler.

I think the recipe is on Linda Sue's site, but I don't know the exact name of it. Hopefully someone else on here does.

I made it a lot back awhile, I put it in a covered dish on my counter. Didn't have any problems, but only lasted a few days with my Grandkids around. Then made a lot and kept it in the fridge and it got moldy. Don't know if this helps you any ; o ) ...............Ann

If you leave the candy out, it will harden. I use it as a hard candy. Then, it never goes bad. I have kept it for months.

oops, I misread your post...thought you needed the recipe.

I made some a couple of years ago and mine got moldy in the fridge too...I never thought of just letting it sit out and harden. The idea of hard candy is appealing. Thanks for the idea, Soobee.

I wonder if in an air tight container if it would stay softer out on the counter? I'd hate to have it go moldy! Truth be told, it probably won't last long enough to get moldy the way I love gummy bears.

Can someone share the recipe? I'm also needing it for a long road trip.

Gummy Candy (I think it was called Fruit Leather)

5 envelopes Knox Gelatin
1 PK Kool-Aid
3/4 C. Sweetener (I use Splenda)
1/2 C. Cold water

Mix well- Microwave 1 min. stir, Microwave 1 min. stir, Microwave 30 sec. stir

Pour in 8"X8" pan lined with Reynolds Wrap
When cool cut into strips, squares or whatever shape you'd like. (I divided mine into a
couple of the plastic boxes you put sandwiches in for kids school lunches. Works well, the candy peels right out .................... Ann
