Can't get past the taste of flax....

Ok, I may be in the minority, but I can't get past the 'taste' of flax. Maybe I ate too many flax one minute muffins, and pizza crusts when I started years ago. Did you ever have something you ate too much of and now don't like the taste?

I tried to make a flax breakfast pudding this morning and ugh.......'that' taste and consistency. I wish wish wish that I liked it because it is great to make some wonderful low carb things. Darn it.

Does anyone have a good substitute for flax in recipes? I haven't tried almond meal, but before I get a bag I wanted to make sure it didn't have a taste or consistency like flax.....

thanks so much,

I can't stand the texture of flax but recently tried almond meal and I love it.

I don't like flax but do like almond 'flour'. It makes great crackers!

I don't like the regular flax, it has a "grassy" taste to me.
The golden flax has more of a graham cracker taste (IMO).

I agree with Dottie. I like the golden flax much better. Although the darker one mixed equally with pecan meal makes a great MIM. I think the flavor of the pecan is so strong it covers the taste of the flaxseed, so I use both.

Almond meal is a standby for everything. Wonderful pie crust, nice hot breakfast cereal mixed with pecan and golden flaxmeal. I'm sure you could make almond milk with it but I haven't tried that. Makes great blueberry muffins too, baked in the oven.

I can't live without my almond meal! I used to grind my own but recently purchased some online that I really love! Flax to me tastes slimy, I may have added too much to what I was making, so I don't use it often!

I prefer coconut flour for most things. Flax just doesn't fit well into my life....I don't find it all that beneficial

Thanks again for the replies.

The golden flax is what I've been using don't care for.

I have to head to the store tomorrow and I'm going to pick up some almond meal and look for coconut flour.

I my baking, I tend to use mixtures of flax with the other flour subs, like almond flour, whey protein, coconut flour. That seems to disguise the "grassy" flavor of the dark flax, and disguises the slight "musty" flavor the golden has for me. By using mixtures, I still get all those wonderful health benefits flax is so well known for, but I also get the flavor I'm looking.
