Perfect pasta replacement!

The spirooli slicer and vegetables!
This is one of the best purchases I've made in a long time. My pasta loving husband raved about how it transformed cucumber, saying "Well now I don't need pasta anymore!" He kept calling the strands noodles, and I kept reminding him that they were vegetables!
I can't wait to try some Parmesan zucchini and a thick meat sauce with zucchini noodles!

I was just thinking about this-- when you get sushi, they do something to the daikon radish that makes it look like that, not like a regular grater.

Where did you get your "spirooli"?

Did you use the core of the zucchini? When I do it with a regular veggie peeler, I skip the core b/c of the sponginess and the seeds, but it seems like wasting a lot?

LOL I put 3 on my watch list-- I'm in Canada, so I need the one with the best shipping rate, and alas, I have to wait for the seller to respond

I have to say, I have a cheap mandoline (fox run) and I love it! I do cucumber on it all the time, just did kolhrabi-- I wish it had a better hand protector, but for under 15$, I"m not really complaining.

I think I would totally use this gadget, and I'm mentally making room for it right now

I have one of these from my Raw Foodist days.. I had never thought about using it now!
You could lightly steam the squash or zucchini and make ala dente "Pasta".. what a fantastic idea!

I've had one for many years and they work great with most firm veggies, zucchini, eggplant, daikon, squashes.

And for the carb eaters, they make great potato swirls to bake!

I too have had one for years! We call zucchini noodles "zoodles" - I didn't think that up, it came from my old WW days, which is when I bought the Spirooli - at least 8 years ago!

It also makes nice sweet potato "nests" - just kind of curl the long strands into a nest on a baking sheet sprayed with pam, then spray the nests lightly (I use the EVOO spray) and sprinkle on a little sea salt, then roast at 400* til they're crispy but not burnt.

As for the cores, I save those in a bag in the freezer and just throw them into the soup pot when I make veggie soup. Zucchini, yellow squash, daikon radish, whatever you Spirooli that produces a core.

Do anhy of you cook your "noodles" made of zucchini or daikon or whatever? I'd eat raw foods .. but can't seem to be too excited about them, lol!!!

wow- a bidding war on eBay! I didn't even think to check there...
I remembered this from my raw food days, it's a huge staple in that community and I can see why
Eggplant- I plan on trying that too, I thought to put chicken on it for a more authentic chicken parmesan
tonight I think I'm going to try zucchini, and I'm glad to hear that others have cooked theirs successfully, I bet you could get some tasty sweet potato fries for those who have a higher daily carb limit!

oh! it sliced my red onion really thin and pretty too, that helped with portion control for me last nice since onions are higher carb, it really looks like you're eating a lot more vegetables than you are because of how well it 'noodles' them!

I won! Got the spirooli for about $20 USD, and shipping is almost 1.5x that, but it goes for about $50 wherever I looked, so at least this one is coming right to my house.

Ok-- what's LC that we can spirool? Zucch, Daikon... OH-- broccoli stems.... maybe cucumber for a cold salad?

Other ideas?
