best sweetener for baking

I am going to attempt a lc cheesecake again..my last attempt, i used all splenda and it had a strong aftertaste

can anyone recommend which sweetener is best for baking? also, i am checking out the sf chocolate chips, can anyone comment on the taste? wondering if they are close to the real thing

i am hoping a lc chocolate chip cheesecake is in my future

This is the last cheesecake I made. It was delish.

Choc chips? Which brand are you looking for? I have only had Hersey, but I can not find them any more.

the sugar free chocolate chips which are made with the dreadful sugar alcohols like the sugar free chocolates you find in most drugstores taste wonderful, but I don't think they are significantly better than the ones with sugar, really. if you think they are, just buy one of those chocolate bars and chop it up if you don't find the chocolate chips anywhere.

I've never had a bad taste from the Splenda. were you using too much? my husband has never commented, and he's not really acclimated to Splenda so would be likely to notice even if I didn't. if you mean the sweet taste lingers, well sure. but that's a good thing! sugar only starts tasting sour and nasty in your mouth as an aftertaste because of the bacteria feasting on it and then devouring your tooth enamel! LOL

I use Truvia in my cheesecake. 3 Tbls in a recipe with 4 eggs and 4 packages of cream cheese in a 10 "spring form pan. Taste is just fine. I am very sensitive to Splenda and can't use it.

I don't like the taste of Splenda either. I think some people taste the aftertaste, and some don't. My husband doesn't know the difference between any sweeteners, but I can tell you exactly what I'm eating. I recently discovered "Ideal" sweetener. It's a granulated form of Xylitol that measures just like sugar. My Albertson's carries it and there is a $1.00 off coupon you can get on their website. It tastes fabulous! I've used it in a lot of baked goods and I don't think you can tell the difference between it and sugar.

One caution, though. Xylitol is very toxic to dogs, so if you have dogs around, be very, very careful.
