Adrianna,

Just wondering why the Diet Rite? I have seen other recipes that call for cola and wondered what the reasoning for using them is.

alex57,
I think diet rite use Splenda and the others may use aspartame as the sweeter.

The diet soda acts as a replacement for the brown sugar found in traditional bbq sauce. I have used soda with aspartame before but it didn't turn out as well as splenda soda does. I wish they would make Dr. Pepper with splenda, because that flavor works really well in bbq sauce.

You need the diet soda with the splenda or it would turn bitter with
aspartame.

I made meatloaf for supper and poured this on top. Yum!

Hi!

Sorry for not replying sooner, like others have said the reason why I reccomend Diet Rite is because it is sweetened with Splenda. Sodas sweetened with aspartame will not give you the same results as a soda sweetened with Splenda since Splenda is heat stable and aspartame is not. The aspartame will break down and be bitter and the recipe will not turn out very good.

Hope this helps and thanks everyone for the great compliments they are very much appreciated!

Thank you Summer.

I know about the need for splenda to maintain sweetness in cooking, but didn't know that the cola flavor was to take the place of brown sugar.
