The recipe sounded way too sweet to me, also. I have been making it with 6 drops Sweetzfree which, I understand, should be used in the same proportion as Liquid Splenda, but the original recipe says "18 drops of Liquid Splenda." I love the recipe and freeze it in ice cube trays so that I can have it on hand all the time!

I do have the Truvia, so I may just go with that. Thank you!

I like that idea. That way it won't go to waste sitting in the refrigerator.

I made the BBQ sauce posted by Aediekins today. I liked it but am so mad at myself . I ordered ez-sweet from Netrition and misplaced the very small bottle. Its got to be here someplace but I'll be darned if I can find it.

Since I use Truvia I substituted that for the dry sweetener. Figured about 15 packs for 4 tablespoons. When I couldn't find the liquid sweetener I threw in a couple more packs of Truvia.

I think the carb count is about .88 grams for 1 tablespoon.

I made it day before yesterday and it was good, but it mostly tasted like the hot sauce with a hint of sweetness. I even added onion and garlic. I had it with chicken, but I think it would be better suited for pulled pork.

Indispensable Almost No Carb Barbecue Sauce
This isn't a substitute for the "real thing," it's an improvement. It's so good the rest of the family gobbles it up and I have to keep making more.

3/8 cup vinegar
1 1/2 cup tomato sauce. (1 15 oz can) Don't buy a tomato sauce that has spices or flavorings in it!
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tablespoon yellow hot dog mustard
3/4 tablespoon Franks Hot Sauce (the chicken wing sauce)
3/4 tablespoon salt (optional)
1 dash cayenne pepper. Go easy!!!!
3 teaspoons lemon juice
1 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring
6 teaspoons Splenda or 18 drops of Liquid Splenda

Add vinegar and all other ingredients except mustard to a sauce pan and slowly heat. Put mustard in a cup and slowly stir in a couple tablespoons of sauce until well blended. Then add mustard mixture back to sauce in pan.

Bring to a boil, and lower heat. Let simmer for a few minutes. Let cool, then refrigerate.

Note: this sauce will taste a bit peculiar if you taste it when it is still hot. Don't worry! Something magical happens when it sits in the fridge.

Carbohydrates per Serving (1 tablespoon): Less than 1 gram. Half an ounce is 1 gm carbs, 6 calories.

This is soooooo good!!!! I sub Stevia for the sweetner, chipolte for the cayanne and emerils wing sauce for franks. Honestly you can eat it hot from the pan. There is no strange taste. The Best BBQ sauce ever!

KAL is the brand I use. It doesn't have any after taste even though it is pure stevia.

ALso I freeze it in individual servicing so that I don't drink the stuff.

I still LOVE this stuff--my family prefers it to those syrupy, gelatinous bottled sauces! It's just really, really good!

a vast armada of bbq sauce recipes, to be sure.

No doubt, i will be experimenting plenty with all these when i retire. However, currently, as i AM a troll on the go, I am most delighted with my simple concoction of WF bbq sauce plus chinese mustard. I just might add some liquid smoke to the mix to shake things up a bit. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

If your using the now brand better liquid stevia should you still use 18 drops? Id like to make this for Thursdays dinner. Also is it white vinegar used in the orginal recipe?

I made this up yesterday for the ribs I'm cooking tomorrow - 24 hours later it's not too bad. A little too tangy for my tastes, but that was trying it off a spoon rather than on meat. Still better than the other SF BBQ sauces I've tried to make.

I made this for the first time yesterday and it is fantastic!! The only differences I made was I mistakenly bought Frank's Red Hot sauce not the wing sauce so I just added what I thought would be the heat we like and then only added 12 drops of liquid splenda. I probably will go with 10 drops next time but now I'm sitting here thinking of all the things I want to put the sauce on! Even if I weren't low carbing, I'd want this as my go-to bbq sauce!

I'm going to try this soon. Ever since KC Masterpiece stopped making their LC BBQ sauce, I've been floundering trying to find one that's even halfway decent. I doctor all my storebought sauces anyway, so if this is a good base, I can work with it. Thanks.

Just found this and wow! Fiancé roasted a pork butt today and we are waiting for it to pull right now, been missing BBQ sauce and this is perfect. I added just a bit too much vinegar and wing sauce so I am hoping it calms down some over night, also am going to freeze in ice trays a few, because that's a BRILLIANT idea!
