OK, so I finally got around to making this sauce today. It's gone through the cooling period in the fridge for a few hours now. I just had a taste and
WOW!!!
I have become rather skeptical of rave recipes because, I guess, I'm really particular about taste and textures and I seem to be disappointed a lot. Well, this time, I am NOT disappointed. This is honest to goodness, real BBQ sauce. I am so stoked!!!
Thank you Jenny/Bloodsugar 101 and Linda/Beeb!!

BTW, I used 1/4 cup xylitol and just under 1/4 cup splenda granular for sweetening.

Ok... now I can't wait. I BBQ every day as soon as the weather gets warm enough. I was almost freaking out how I was gonna be able to bbq some of my favorites without the sauce.

I've got to start making this sauce soon and stockpile it so I will have enough on hand!

Thanks.

I made 2 double batches today. They are in the refrigerator now and I won't taste them until tomorrow. I hope to make pulled pork tomorrow for dinner.

I will report back tomorrow with my review.

Check the spice isle at the grocery store. I found mine at the 99 Cent Only store, though.

It's usually by the extracts (vanilla, almond, lemon etc.) In/near the spices.

I found the liquid smoke near the condiments, like barbeque, ketchup and Worcestershire sauce.

Ok... verdict is in.

I'm not going to say that this is the best bbq sauce I've ever had but it is good. Good enough to keep making and using.

The kids really liked it in their pulled pork. It is definately a successful recipe!

Thanks.

I'm craving bacon wrapped shrimp but I don't have a low carb BBQ sauce. Might have to give it a whirl next weekend....

It is really simple to make and takes very little time. A doubled up recipe will fill a 1qt canning jar.

I also let it sit in the refrigerator for 24 hours before I used it. I heard this makes it taste better.

Okay, so I made this a few weeks ago, and was not thrilled with it. I figured I was just too picky about sauce. But re-reading this thread, I might have to try it again.

Okay, stupid question, but other than using it for grilling meat, what do you use it for? Can you please send me ideas?

I made a pork roast in the crockpot and then shredded it and put this BBQ sauce on it. I've also just baked meat (chicken, ribs, etc.) in the sauce, instead of actually grilling.

Okay, I made some major tweaks and finally got that sweet, not-to-tangy sauce that I love!!! I kept licking the spoon while it was cooling!

16 oz. plain tomato sauce
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tablespoon yellow hot dog mustard
1 tablespoon Franks Hot Sauce (the chicken wing sauce)
1/2 tablespoon salt
3 teaspoons lemon juice
1 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring
4 tablespoons Steviva (Erythritol/Stevia blend)
10 drops liquid Stevia
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder

Add all ingredients to a pot and simmer over low heat for 15 minutes. Taste it and see if it's tangy enough for you. If you want it tangier add just one tablespoon of vinegar and re-taste. It will taste good when it's warm! Let it cool and refrigerate.

I'm finally going to try to make my own bbq sauce. I've been buying Smokin Joe Jones, and while it's good, it's not what I'm used too, and it's getting Expensive at almost $6 a jar, plus I have to order it from Netrition. I'm out and I want some sauce so I'm going to try it.

Can someone please tell me what the brand name is for the Stevia blend is? I gather that is what most are using when they refer to Stevia when it is in powdered form.

If you look in the ingredients list I wrote the name "STEVIVA" that is the brand that I use, but there are others out there I think Truvia is a stevia/erythritol blend too.

I'm going to try this recipe and think my Truvia will be about the same as your Steviva. I am puzzled by the liquid Stevia.

I'm using ez-sweetz where 1 drop equals 2 tsp of sugar sweetness. What amount would you recommend if I use the ez-sweetz instead of the liquid Stevia?

Thanks.

Oh man, that is so hard to say. Sweeteners vary so much. I will say this, I like 20-25 drops of liquid Stevia (NuNaturals brand) in one 8-10 oz cup of coffee So I'm not sure it would be equal, as I would not actually put 40 tsp of sugar in my coffee But I do like my coffee sweet

I would suggest just adding the sweetener last and taste as you go. That's how I came up with my measurements. Also, Stevia has a way of lessening it's sweetness after it's been cooked. So add just a bit sweeter than you like... so after it's been simmered a while, it should be perfect

I finally made the sauce. It's ok. Not the best i've ever tasted. Not something I have to have in my fridge at all times. I think it was way too sweet.
