I went back and read some of the older posts on here. I am now adding the 1/4 tsp or so of xanthan and found that it really smoothes the mixture up. Makes it like a frosty.
Great ideas on here!

now that it's warm outside, I have been making smoothies almost every day.
I usually make an entire blender full and freeze the leftover in individual paper cups.
They get really hard in the freezer but about a minute in the micro and they are soft enough to eat.
I experimented with adding a tsp. of glycerine in the hopes of them being scoopable right out of the freezer. Well they weren't, but it did give them a real nice smooth texture, no ice grains, and only a few seconds in the micro and they are just like eating a (burger chain) frosty! Very good!

Here's the basic recipe I use when I want one: Strawberry Protein Milkshake « Buttoni's Low Carb Recipes

Strawberry Protein Milkshake
September 2, 2010 by buttoni

Strawberry Protein Milkshake
The flax meal and protein make this a really filling snack. I actually had one for breakfast today and I feel stuffed right now. I know eggs and bacon or an omelet would have been better, but just wanted to use up my strawberries before they went bad. Mmmm. Sure was good! Gobbled it right up! Next time I’m going to use 1/2 nectarine or 1/2 peach. Yeah, I know it’ll add carbs, but I want to have either a peach or nectarine before summer is over. And of course, you could use blueberries, blackberries, or raspberries for this. The nutritional info below is for a STRAWBERRY shake. This recipe is not Induction friendly due to the berries, but once you get to the berry rung of OWL, GO FOR IT!

INGREDIENTS:

7 small strawberries

1 pkt. Stevia or other sweetener

2 T. heavy cream

4 T. (1 scoop) unsweetened, plain whey protein (I use NOW brand)

1 T. flax meal

˝ c. cold water

˝ c. crushed ice

DIRECTIONS:

Cut leaf end off strawberries and toss in blender/processor. Add all other ingredients and blend until smooth.

NUTRITIONAL INFO: Makes 1 serving which contains:

175 calories

9.4 g fat

8.4 g carbs

2.9 g fiber

5.50 NET CARBS

22.5 g protein

52 mg sodium

You can use any berries in this you like.

subbing here. Come summer I want to make these for breakfasts, so will have to read through the whole thing for breakfast ideas, although I'm sure any one of them would work for any meal.

Aaaaaah. Drinking an egg cream/protein shake right now. This is my first egg in a shake. OMG you can't taste it and it gives it thickness and body. I have been craving a strawberry milkshake for months.

1c silk almond breeze
1scoop syntrax vanilla PP
1 egg
1/4 cup Walden farms strawberry syrup
5 ice cubes

blend well and yum.

209 calories, 1.38g carbs.

Here's my go to recipe - I call it Chocolate Protein Frosty.

1 scoop vanilla protein powder
2 tbl hershey dark cocoa powder
3 tbl heavy cream
1/2 tsp xanthan gum
8-10 ice cubs (regular square ones)
Enough water to make it move in the blender (about 1/2-3/4 cup)
*splenda or other sweetener if needed.

Tastes like a Wendy's Frosty. And is extremely thick!
Just made this and OMG is it good! The only difference was instead of water I used almond milk.

Was working with what I had on hand, and it came out pretty well actually. Tasted like strawberry frozen yogurt

3/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/4 cup half and half
1 generous scoop vanilla protein powder
6 frozen strawberries
4 to 5 drops liquid splenda

I did have to add more half and half, because it was so thick my blender wasn't blending it well.

Bought a jar of PB2. Today I decided to open it and try to make a shake with it. I am happy with my results. It tastes like the peanut butter middle of a Peanut butter cup.

PB2 Protein Shake

1 scoop vanilla protein powder
3 heaping teaspoons PB2
3/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/4 cup half and half
6 ice cubs
3 drops liquid splenda
1/4 teaspoon xanthum gum

not to thread jack here, but Ms. Woods I gotta tell you...you look MAHHHHVELOUS!
(I haven't been keeping up on the threads so I just saw your new picture) This WOE has worked really well for you.

Back on track..it's getting warm so time to bust out the smoothie maker again. I am going through some of the older posts for ideas. I like lemon so I have been using
a lemon SF drink packet, scoop of vanilla PP, a little HWC, some ice and water. This makes about 20 oz. or more for me. Yum!

They sounded chilly but if I think about it, my yogurt is cold as well. Got to get that protein powder more accessible (up from my basement)!

I make mine from coffee if you like something hot or add ice if you want it cold. I use 1-2 T coconut oil, 1 scoop Syntrax Chocolate Truffle protein powder, and one egg. Blend and drink if you like it hot. If you want it cold, freeze some coffee icecubes and add them.

Loving this thread , thanks to all for the great ideas. I will have to overcome my fear of protein powders and try these out. So ready to drink my breakfast. I have some almond breeze, will pick up some protein powder tomorrow.

Okay, I got 4 packets of Jay Robb Protein powder, to try out the whey vs the egg white , 1 each of choc and vanilla. I basically made Char's version using choc unsweetened almond breeze, extra dark cocoa, 1 packet stevia , 1 tbls cream, vanilla, dash of salt and ice. I used the chocolate whey powder and the shake was so good. I shared it with my husband, very filling and low carb, low cal. Makes a lot! Love it!!! I'm going to buy a tub of the stuff next shopping trip. Thanks for all the great suggestions, lots of yummy shakes to be tried.

I've been working on this to get it down to the lowest carb and calorie count without sacrificing flavor and this is what I now use.

I scoop Jay Robb chocolate protein powder
3 teaspoons instant coffee granuals
1 teaspoon xanthan gum
1 1/2 cups chocolate almond breeze
1/2 teaspoon chocolate extract
few drops liquid splenda
large glass of crushed ice
Blend together in the vitamix until thick and smooth.
