Carb Counts in Xylitol

Hi,

I was wondering how everyone counts the carbs in Xylitol?

My packet says that there are no carbs, but x grams of xylitol. The health food store told me that you don't count the carbs because there is virtually no impact on blood sugar, like with erithrytol.

Does anyone happen to have any literature on this?

Thanks in advance

I've seen some sources that you should count 1/2 the grams for xylitol due to its glycemic impact and the pathway it takes in the body. Not exactly sure how they come up with that percentage, though!

I've heard you count half if you have no gastric distress because your body is digesting and utilizing the carbs.

I get a bit of a tummy ache with it, if it's heavy on the xylitol.

Gosh, so does this up being less than Splenda et al?

Okay, so I found some research that states over 60 grams per serve, you should count it as one half carb per gram. Prior to that, the impact on blood sugar is too minimal. Apparently even measuring it is still a precautionary measure for brittle diabetics and the like.

I never make anything that has 60 grams of xylitol per serve because I find it extremely sweet and I always blend with Stevia, so I will probably still count it as 0-1 per recipe.
