Avocado's not only taste buttery and creamy and are a great way to up your healthy fats and fiber they have also been scientifically proven to help treat cervical dysplasia, prevent various cervical problems and help with some hormonal imbalances. That being said, I try to eat 2 a week by adding it to various salads, mixing it up and using it as a topping for hamburger patties, and just eating is plain. I wish I had known this years ago and even my OB/GYN recommends eating one weekly. As for the actual taste, its barely there and really depends on how you use it, overall it adds more of a creamy texture than taste.

I love avocadoes. Like everyone has said, they have a soft texture and buttery taste without any real strong flavor. I like to slice them up and pour a little olive oil over them and have them along with tomato slices.

We love avocados on taco night. DH uses a low-carb wrap filled with taco meat and all the toppings. YUM!!

I heard Rachel Ray recommend opening them by making one slice through the middle lengthwise, then using a big spoon to scoop out each side. If you don't finish it in one meal, you can store it in the fridge with the pit and a little lime juice (it will oxidize and turn brown but you can cut that part off).

Haas Avacados are the best. Be sure they are not squishy, but just dentable. They will keep for a couple of weeks in the frig. Store them after they are ready to eat. They will continue to soften. I like to buy them from Cost Co...they are the biggest and best. 6 in a bag for around $6... sometimes $4. Cal-avo's are less flavorful and I knowlingly NEVER buy one. I can always pick them out in restraunts because the guacamole is yukky.

They are wonderful with grilled chicken ceasar salads, pastrami sandwiches or salads, any vegetable salad, on taco salad, in tacos, right out of the skin with salt and garlic powder. We LOVE avacados and they are good for you. They also help your body use the nutrients in salad.

My mom took a permanent dislike to avocados because she ate a hard one! When they are ripe, I agree with the person who said they have a creamy, buttery, almost nut-like flavor. I just adore them. My favorite fruit!!

I even make avocado ice cream and avocado smoothies with them. BF loves beer battered avocado wedges. I make avocado sauce for my fish. I lurve 'em in sandwiches, with eggs, and of course, guacamole.

Thanks for the reminder. I am going to head out to Costco and get some!!

Avocados make a yummy dessert mashed up with sweetener and lemon extract! Alton Brown used them to frost a cake once. They are so versatile and creamy and delicious!

Avocado crab boats

Halve an avocado, take out most of the chunks.
Using crab meat, avocado, green onion slices, mayo, a dab of sf catsup.
Make a salad and stuff it back into the 'cado' shell. Top with black olives.

To me, not ripe avocados taste like macadamia nuts.

How has no one mentioned grilling them? It's the best way I've ever had them. Sliced them open, take the pit out throw right on the grill creamy side down, and let them get warm and charred. Sprinkle with some sea salt an eat with a fork. OMG. Now that's heaven.

This sounds really good. I will definitely try it out next time we grill.
