Tortilla chips?

Are there any good low carb tortilla chips out there? Does anyone make their own?

I make my own all the time. Usually I use Mama Lupe's from Netrition, then I spray them with a little butter, and then sprinkle garlic powder on them, and then bake at 350, watching them closely. Usually takes about 10 minutes if oven is preheated. They should be brown, but not burnt.

For the kids I made them using corn tortillas, they didn't like them, but I loved them! Can't make those again.

If you don't mind soy, Trader Joe's has *really* good Soy & Flax tortilla chips - somewhere in the ballpark of 9 carbs per serving. And only $1.99 for a good sized bag.

I just love trader joe's...
if you are lucky enough to have one in your location. They also have low-carb soft tortillas...over in the refridgerated section by the pizza dough...they are good!

I fry mine in oil, just to make them extra crispy. I find that they have to be golden, but not too brown to be really crispy! I eat mine with Velveeta dip. That's our big Superbowl treat with wings!

We eat WAY TOO MANY Trader Joe Flaxseed Soy tortilla chips in an orange and yellow bag, but frankly it's part of what makes this way of life work! Pork rinds were ok in the beginning, but we use the tortilla chips for football munchies each Sunday and they are a lifesaver. We're mostly on maintanence and looking for small weight loss though.

You can also put the tortilla in the microwave. It takes between 1-2 minutes depending on your microwave--just watch it close. You can cut the tortilla first or leave it whole and break it apart when it's done.

HEB also makes a good soy chip, but at 9 carbs per serving they're dangerous to have around! Who can eat just one serving?

I find this method works far better for me then the oven. Way crispier in the micro and you can watch so as not the burn them. Mama Lupe or l/c Mission wraps are the only ones I care for this way though.

hmmmm I think I need a snack now

5cats good to see you back

When I was in maint before I would use a pizza cutter and cut the LC tortillas into wedges and drop in the deep fryer for a couple secs, pull them out, season, and eat. They were delish! I look forward to having them agan once I hit goal. I can;t do the wraps while trying to lose. They make me stall.

Try the Joseph's Lavash Bread Cracker recipe. I really like these. Here's how to make them:

Cut a lavash bread sheet into 16 "squares" (you could cut each square into a triangle to look like a tortilla chip). Place on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Spray the lavash bread pieces with corn oil cooking spray. Sprinkle with sea salt. Bake at 350 for 7 minutes. Each lavash bread sheet has 8 net carbs. I buy them in the bakery section of my local Wal-Mart.

I just found Joseph's Lavish bread at Walmart last night, I was so excited; people keep posting L.C. things they find there, but when I look I can never find them at our Walmart. Anyway my question is, are there lots of different types of Joseph's Lavish bread? Mine says 7 total carbs, 3 fiber, which would make it 4 net carbs...........right. Also, when I did L.C. a few years ago you also deducted the amount of protein, is that not done anymore. Slightly confused Ann

I'm all over those TJ chips, even though I try to avoid soy as much as possible - they are one exception for me! They also have "flavored" ones that have red, green, and regular chips in the same bag. They are really great!

We've served both kinds to non-LC folks who all thought they were wonderful!

I've never heard of decucting the protein grams. You deduct the fiber because you don't digest it.

Ann: I haven't been able to find the Lavash bread, but from what I understand, the serving printed on the wrapper is for 1/2 the whole piece so it's 4 carbs for half the piece. Also, Soobee is right. It's the fiber you deduct, not protein.

My daughter lost 80 pounds, using the first Atkins diet book. I lost 40 then ended up in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer and the way they make you eat gained it back. and she said at that time they deducted fiber, alcohol sugar and protein, but doesn't remember exactly where it was in his book and I couldn't find it. But will just do the fiber now, so far have lost 6 pounds, kind of heartbreaking to have to start all over, of course, I shouldn't have let so much time go by before I did.

Thank you both, I made the crackers yesterday and they are really good. I'm not sure how I happened on this site, but it sure was my lucky day.
