Carolyn, your chocolate cake brownie sounds fascinating! I've never heard of using beans in a cake! My sons both said about a brownie with beans in it, "That sounds "nasty"" as I searched in the pantry and asked them what happened to the last can of black beans (apparently, they were fed to our dog, Happy, when we were away on our vacation!), but then they had just witnessed me trying to sell them on a double thick, ice cold chocolate pysillium husk shake! LOL What is low-carbing coming to these days?

Some of the stories on this thread made me laugh out loud - the lady and her friend who hates beans but now they stuff their faces regularly with ugly green bean fries and how they're eating brownies made out of beans! The other lady who stealthily hid the beans from her 14-yr old son and spoke about the "regular" ingredients in the brownies to entice him to try one - and then spilled the beans (haha, 'scuse the pun!).

I was feeling edgy tonight for some reason, but I was laughing so much over all of this - thanks for your innovative recipe, Carolyn! I will be trying it as soon as I can get another can or two of black beans. I will probably increase the sweetener - maybe add some powdered erythritol, because I have a bit of a sweet tooth and frost them with a decadent chocolate frosting. Thanks, Char, for the detailed heads up on this recipe.

Jennifer, this is a South Beach Diet recipe..Honestly, you can't tell it has any beans in it.
I have made other cakes with white beans..(like carrot and apple).

My friend makes this all the time and even her dh loves it..Give it a go..

I just made this and ate some. Dh and I really loved it. I used the extra chocolate and 1.5 T virgin coconut oil. Also added a small amount more of sweetener. It is filling. Very surprised at the ability of the beans to act like flour. I thought it might be gooey when baked but it was more cake like. In a few days I plan to try the carrot cake. It sounds great too.

I have the black bean brownies in the oven as we speak. I used 1/2 cup of erythritol and 4 packets of Splenda instead of 1 cup of Splenda. I used 2 oz semi sweet chocolate and 4T butter and microwaved them, stirring until melted, then added cream cheese and microed another 20 seconds, added Hersheys cocoa, wisked and added to the blender. All the ingredients were placed in the blender and blended until I felt like the beans were "dissolved". Batter tasted good though. I'll report back.

They raise up in the middle like a cake when baking, then fall while cooling. A bit cakey but a very nice treat. The sweetener balance was perfect. They are not overly sweet. Very dark as I used Hershey's Special Dark and the extra 2 oz of semi sweet chocolate. I used Bakers chocolate. Used a total of 4 tablespoons butter. Will definitely make again. May try black soybeans to see how they work.

I made mine with canned soybeans, light in color. If I knew how to upload a picture, I would. They look great and very dark, but they seem too wet. I don't know how to explain. They were definately done after 30 min. Like I wanna say tooooooooo moist. My eggs were 4 jumbo; so, maybe cut down the eggs?

I finally made these today and WOW!!!! I made a couple of changes. I sort of took the chocolate cake recipe and this recipe and joined them, lol. I think the only thing different was I didn't use the cheese and I added more oil. I did add the extra unsweetened chocolate and butter too. Hard to believe these are beans!!! Thanks Carolyn!!

I love this recipe..I made an easy chocolate trifle with some of these frozen brownies.

Just break up about 4-5 brownies, mix up a large SF chocolate pudding and put the broken up brownies in there. Stir in some whipped cream (whipped)..Add a layer of whipped cream to the top..And refrigerate..

I found a recipe like this but you use butterscotch pudding. I love butterscotch!! That just might be in my future plans.

I have made these brownies twice now, and I love them! The first time they had a little too much bean texture as my food processor crapped out midway thru *grumble*, but with my shiney new one, this time I was able to get everything blended perfectly! My tweeks were to add 1/3 cup each, or so, of dried cherries and filberts, and one ounce of melted bittersweet chocolate. perfect! We are going camping this weekend, and for tomorrow nights dinner finale we'll have these brownies WITH Lauren's new recipe for Premium Chocolate Ice Cream (on her blog). I'll make that tomorrow before we go. "camping" is a loose term for me, as long as there is hydro for my fridge, running water, and a flush toilet nearby I am in!

Maintenance is good.

Dh has been asking for brownies the last few days, so i made this recipee after seeing i had all the ingrediants on hand.
He has lost 35 pounds in the last 3 months doing low carb "his way".
I caught him cutting into them after 15 min out of the oven! I had a bite while warm...and now they are in the frig. I bet they are way better when completely cool. They were pretty yummy warm! I think I will throw a few in the freezer to "save" for a parfait like Carolyn made!

This is a definate KEEPER!!!!

I've made a couple of variations of this recipe using black soybeans. The last time, I made a carrot/zucchini cake using traditional spices, nuts, a few raisins and a bit of crushed unsweetened pineapple, then frosted it with cream cheese frosting. I use Wilton mini cake pans for mine.

Ok...these DO NOT taste like brownies. Sorry.

The do, however, make a perfectly acceptable cupcake. I may need to tinker with this a bit as the splenda aftertaste was pretty noticeable, but this is worth a try.

Made them and they are delish more like a cake though, I put it in a muffin pan to make cupcakes. Delish cold as well.
