I'm sitting at the curb waiting for the UPS man......LOL. I'm getting ready to develop my border collies bad habit of chasing delivery trucks.....

Maybe tomorrow!
What is the first thing you're going to make?

Ya know....I haven't really thought of it.....I have so many things that can be made in it going through my mind. (I sat last night and watched all 52 videos on the VITAMIX website--I need to get a life).

But....

I think the first thing will be a sorbet....with raspberries or Strawberries....

and the first morning that I wake up to it on my counter top---

FAWN'S GREEN SHAKE....... this is what I have really been wanting to do.

And then.............

Some soup....Either cream of asparagus or Ginger-Carrot soup.

And then........

my own Balsamic vinegarette dressing

and then............

some snowcones with my davinci syrup

LOL...I have a couple of ideas...

What about you?

LOL, you've thought about it more than I have--I haven't thought much more beyond my morning shake (totally expecting that to be awesome!) and some sort of ice cream. But...I'm going to have to check out those videos!

Tip: Get the small blender container -very worth it. It's perfect for shakes and easier to use then the big container unless you are making large quantities.

OK...I was told my VITAMIX was shipped yesterday.....I pulled up UPS tracking # today and it said that it was "in transit" and on schedule for delivery on 8/6/2009. IS THIS POSSIBLE?????? When I get home from work is my VITAMIX gonna be sitting there.

Sure glad I didn't pay for the 2nd day delivery, because it would have delayed it a day....I got it overnight....LOL.

Should I open the box?

(On the other hand....my Schwann's man is getting fired.....)

I kid you not Su11...a La Machine!

Hubby, who is a FedEx driver, delivered my Vitamix yesterday! Wow, this is one heavy duty piece of kitchen equipment! And I love that great cookbook that is spiral bound and stands up! I've barely scanned it's contents but just the fact that they list nutritional information is very impressive. I'm definitely having some blueberry ice cream tonight!

Cook's Illustrated wrote in the back of their latest issus that the Vitamix was the best one available, although costly. It aced all their tests.

Love my VM. I just bought the smaller container and find I use the VM even more.

One word of caution (duh moment here DON'T leave a metal utensil in it when you turn the motor one == guess what? I blew out the grinder AND the bottom thingy. Not a good thing, and after 6 decades on earth, you'd think I'd know better.

Finally got my 4000 but it didn't come with the cookbook--so I have a lot of experimenting to do!

I got the CIA model

I'm getting ready to watch the DVD next. Soobee, my husband just mentioned that the Vitamix was reviewed in the latest issue of Cooks Illustrated! He always snatches the latest issue before I see it! I said "I told you it was the best!". We love that magazine!

I called the VM support line and they are sending me photocopies of the book, but it won't be here for a few days. Can't stand to have the thing sitting on my counter while I wait! So I've tried a few things but I can tell I really need to read the directions.

I still haven't quite got the trick of my VM, but I made a great soup today, inspired by the "gotta go" recipes I've read...
2 c. water
2 bouillon cubes
1 stalk celery
2 green onions
1 pepper
3 small tomatoes
I blended those on high and then turned it down to add a good sized hunk of cheese. I wanted to add cooked chicken, but don't have any. It tastes great as is, although a little thin. I think the chicken would make it just about perfect.

OK....I don't mean to be completely stupid.....but....I can't find a recipe to make lemonade in my Vitamix anywhere. I would think this would be something that someone would have made and reported on somewhere or the other.

Do I quarter the lemons and leave the zest, pith and seeds with it. Do I peel it.

Any suggestions. I have searched the recipe book. Searched the site....and now...I'm here on the VITAMIX thread....I know someone has a suggestion...

Just call me Vitamix challenged right now.

LOL.

My first ice cream experiment:
1 cup frozen cream mini cubes
1/2 c vanilla Davinci
2 T. not starch
2 T erythritol
1/2 c ice

Very, very creamy and tasty! I have to powder the erythritol first next time, as I can feel tiny granules of it. But for the first time out it hit the spot!

GOTTA LAUGH

OK--- Still looking for the lemonade recipe.....

BUT...had to share.....my 4 year old granddaughter was over tonight, and I asked her if she wanted a SHREK shake.....and she did. Then...I started thinking...I don't want to throw her right in the GREEN shake from the start...first, I started thinking she doesn't get enough veggies anyway, so I didn't want her to get a tummy ache and then...didn't want her turned off, if I couldnt' control the amount of "green". LOL.

So...I made her:

a handful of spinach
a handful of frozen strawberries
a splash of almond breeze--unsweetened
a splash of Davinici Vanilla syrup...... (I didn't have strawberry ....)

Blended it up...she says that looks like chocolate...didn't want her to get taste shock . No Miss Amberlee it's strawberry. She took a drink and that was it....she LOVED it. "Mamaw Dee...you put leaves in my shake..." Then..."man, this is good"...."will you make me this when I come back." "I can't believe I just drank leaves". LOL Of course I will...and who knows we may get a few carrots in there next time.....

I love the fact that I can make something that a 4 year old things is nommie and it doesn't have to come in the form of a sugar coated bakery confection.

Sharing this with Amberlee tonight was WAYYYYYYY cool

Thought I'd share....

Dee

My son loves this, its not lemonade but is really good, from the Vitamix recipe book

Quote:
Lemon Ice

Yield: 3 cups (720 ml)

Speed: Variable to High
Time: 30 to 60 seconds

3/4 cup (180 ml) water
1 lemon, peeled and quartered
1 teaspoon lemon peel
1/4 cup (50 g) sugar or other sweetener, to taste
2 cups (480 ml) ice cubes

1. Place all ingredients into the Vita-Mix container in the order listed and secure lid.
2. Select Variable 1.
3. Turn machine on and quickly increase speed to Variable 10, then to High.
4. Use the tamper to press ingredients into the blades.
5. In about 30-60 seconds, the sound of the motor will change and four mounds should form.
6. Stop machine. Do not overmix or melting will occur. Serve immediately.

I recently got a BlendTec Blender which is very similar to a VitaMix. I use it every single day for green smoothies. I make savory smoothies for myself (less fruit) and regular green smoothies for my husband and son who is 10 years-old. He will often ask for a smoothie before school and says he can tell the difference when he has one because he is more alert and doesn't get as hungry. I also use it to make low-carb strawberry ice cream with frozen organic strawberries, half-&-half, and stevia. I used my blender to mix up the batter for the black bean cake last night which was really yummy. I remember being horrified by the price of the BlendTec but now I can't imagine being without it.
