Yep, at the demos here, they throw everything in - oranges that are quartered but not peeled; pineapple cores; avocado pits; quartered but not seeded apples. Stuff I'd normally not do. But it all comes out good!

I saw that groupon for the 299$ reconditioned vitamix. So tempting. It is the one with the variable speed. My hubby says if they are so good why are they selling reconditioned ones. Ha.

Ya want some answers for him? They take a lot of the demo models and recondition them, then resell.

Also anyone who returns one within the 30 days timeframe for a full refund, those machines are also reconditioned and resold.

So they're NOT necessarily any returned due to problems! Tell him I said so!

I have done seeds and some peel (orange/lemon/lime/tequila/cauntro for the most banging margaritas Ever ), I just couldn't believe the avacado pit!

and you couldn't be suggesting a better product! BTW, haven't been able to find the ice coffee recipe in the thread; was I suppose to check the vitamix site for the recipe?

What kind of iced coffee are you wanting to make? Like a frappé you mean?

OK, well, what I do - put a cup of water or almond or coconut milk in the VM, add about a tablespoon of instant coffee, a couple tablespoons of half & half or heavy cream, and now whatever you want for flavor/sweetness. DaVinci or Torani SF syrups are good; to make a mocha, I use a heaping teaspoon of cocoa powder and some chocolate DaVinci syrup. You'll have to experiment with the syrups or other sweeteners to see what you like!

Whir that up on a low setting just to incorporate everything.

Now add about 6 ice cubes and let 'er rip on High! Make sure that cover is on tight! Blend til smooth.

If you have any guar or xanthan gum, or better yet, glucomannan powder, add about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon just before you put the ice in. It really helps with the mouthfeel and it helps keep the blended ice in suspension too.

You can start with very strong coffee instead, but I don't make perked coffee any more so I use the instant. And since caffeine and I are not best friends, I use decaf instant. You can use instant espresso powder instead.

And if you're REALLY industrious you can freeze any leftover coffee in ice cube trays - it doesn't dilute the flavor of your drink that way. Again, since I don't brew coffee, no leftovers here so I compensate by adjusting the amount of instant powder I'm using.

HTH!

Here's my current favorite coffee frapa/enough protein for breakfast: I brew the smallest cup of coffee from my Kuerig, and let it cool a bit. Put the cooled coffee, a splash of almond milk, a heaping Tbs of cocoa powder, Stevia to taste, a handful of chia, a sprinkle of gluc, and some ice. Blend well. Adjust for ice/sweetener if needed, and add one scoop of vanilla protein powder (I am currently using Swansons). Blend again. Yum.

Thanks for the suggestions; I've tried the ice cube coffee trick but must of had too much ice; kept popping the breaker.
I'll give these suggestions a shot

If anyone's looking for a Vitamix and belongs to Costco, they have their 5200S discounted down to $350 from $375.

Broccoli Soup

Had a hunger on today for soup & thought what better way to use up the stalks. Followed the recipe from the old binder book that came with the 4000. Well, it definitely needed more salt. And I can honestly say, creamed broccoli soup isn't high on my list of favorites. I wonder if it would have come out better if I had made the soup & added the broccoli last & pulsed it a bit?

Bumping and for my info left off on page 19! lol Been sitting here for over an hour going over all these great posts. Have to leave the rest for another day. I have an older VM and am now thinking I want a newer model with the smaller and wider container. I could keep the one I have now in the camper instead of packing and unpacking it when we will need it.

Geez, I thought I had killed the thread. The only way I'm buying another machine is if someone proves that it actually makes coconut butter in 30"
I'm pretty happy with my old steel model despite not being able to see whats going on & the fact that it ate my tramper

I made a batch of the fresh tomato pasta sauce from the recipe book. I subbed out the brown sugar for splenda brown sugar. This was so easy and absolutely delish! I'm not a fan of tomato seeds and my beast pulverized them, the sauce is so smooth one could drink it!

Is there anything I can use to make the ice incorporate better in iced coffee? I tried Thick It Up, didn't work.

I've heard that either guar gum or xanthan gum will help. I haven't tried this yet in iced coffee, but I know it enhances the mouth feel when I make ice cream in the Vitamix.

I use glucomannan and that really helps to hold the ice in suspension. Less is more though - try 1/4 tsp. to start, then add a little more if you need to.

Really? That's too bad! I have no issues with that but can't take even the smallest amount of PolyDextrose! We're all so different!
