Cauliflower Popcorn

I just noticed on Linda Sue's website (my favorite place to surf for recipes) that she has posted Cauliflower popcorn. I'm certainly going to try this....I just have to get some cauliflower first Just wanted to bring attention to this new and interesting looking recipe and see if any of you have tried it. I have alot of different popcorn salts that no longer get used. I may have to experiment. THANKS LINDA SUE FOR ANOTHER FUN THING TO TRY!

The Cauliflower Popcorn doesn't taste at all like real popcorn, but it does make a nice snack and it's hard to stop eating it. I got the recipe from the Mrs. Dash website, but I had to tweak it a bit because it wasn't baking properly at the temperature they stated. You do need to get it quite dark, but it was getting burnt on the outside before the inside was cooked enough.

Thanks Linda! It could be the weekend before I get to it, tinah, but I'll post how it turns out.

I wonder if you could use the Davinci's buttered popcorn flavor to make it popcorny?

Just tried it! I didn't have the right seasoning salt, so I just used regular salt and it was still fabulous! I loved it! This is a recipe to use many times again at our home. Thanks Linda!

Are those of you who have tried making the version on my site finding that the baking temperature and time are about right? I'm just wondering if it's my oven that was the problem or if the problem was with the original recipe's time and temp.

Cauliflower Popcorn

Also, is yours coming out as ugly and black as mine did?

I just made it and OMG!! To DIE for!!! Here's what I did. I took LindaSue's advice and reduced the temp to 350 but it was still not nearly "there" yet (turning every 15 mins). after 45 min. So then I cranked it up to 375 and it went about another 30 min that way and was perfect. Very dark and crispy but not burnt. I use a teflon coated sheet also which is a dark color so that might make a difference. It is SOOOOO good. I used the regular Mrs. Dash because I couldn't find that particular one. I added a little sea salt to it after it was done. I also added some fresh garlic to it. It's great!!!

I'm just bumping this because it's SOOOO good, I am making it again right now. I don't have it often because I eat the whole thing -- not that cauliflower is bad...

I've made roasted cauliflower - I tossed it in oil mixed with dry ranch dressing mix. It was fantastic.

Old Weight Watchers recipe from the 70s!
Linda: if yours is getting too dark, try using frozen cauliflower.
Just thaw it completely and pat it dry, then make is aaccording to the recipe and it turns out perfect. Maybe because it's partially cooked before freezing? I don't know, but it works a lot better than freah

THANKS, Carissa...for starting this Caulif-Popcorn thread...

THANKS, LindaSue...for the recipe and tweaks...

THANKS, Dottie...for the "partially cooked " comment...

I'd avoided even looking at this Recipe previously...cause my mind balked at seeing cauliflour and popcorn in the same sentence. ..thinking it was a too-far-out concept..

HA ! ..that was before I read LindaSue's explanation:

Now, all I can say is WOW! ...

Dottie:
I had fresh, raw Caulif...so I nuked the little pieces for 4 min. at 1000 wts; nothing added, just covered with a paper towel...then kinda blotted off any excess moisture after nuking.

I used Basil-infused oil and Chili-type spices for flavor..oh, yeah, also a tad of DiabetiSweet Brown added at the same time.

LindaSue
I baked at 400* for 45 min...just right for my oven anyway.

Thanks again, Y'all!

(my DH is sampling it now...he just called it "this cauliflour snacky-stuff" and asked why I had only made enough for him and none for me
