No more almond flour at Trader Joe's!

I went to Trader Joe's to stock up on almond flour and they don't carry it any more! I was like $2.49 for a 2 pound bag. I'm so disappointed. The online places I have checked are much for expensive.

we still have it at tj's in the pacNW. maybe it is too expensive to carry the extra shipping expense right now. almond prices are up everywhere. does your tj's have the hazelnut meal? that works just as well.

For a while they had walnut meal but now they have no meal! If you have it at yours you should buy it up if you need it!

Thanks for your reply

yeah, I'm bummed! No more here in So. CA (strange, when I inquired about it at my local store they acted as if they NEVER sold it...very "Twilight Zone!") I ended up buying the small 8oz. bags of slivered almonds & using my coffee grinder. Ended up with a much finer, paler and imo better textured flour but pricey when compared to the large bag: about $5.40 a pound.

I've still yet to visit one that just opened closer to me. That would be great if they have the almond flour at that price!

You have to go! Trader Joe's has the best stuff at the best prices! My Trader Joe's is about 12 minutes from my house. I go at least once a week. I am hoping the almond flour might resurface in the future.

No nut flours in mine either. They were about $2.50 per pound here.

They DO have cards you can fill out requesting items though - be sure to do that at the register - if enough people request those items, they'll bring them back.

We don't have a Trader Joe's here so I got a food processor. I buy 2 lb bags of almonds and pecans at Sam's club and grind my own..

They moved the almond flour from the nut section to the baking section in my Trader Joe's. When I didn't see them with the nuts, I asked a clerk and he didn't know there was such a thing as almond flour/meal, but was kind enough to ask someone else and directed me to the baking section. They were a dollar more than the last time, but $4.99 is still cheaper than the $13.00 a pound my sister paid at the whole grocer (paycheck).

Welcome to Low carb friends! I noticed it was your first post.

I asked one of the employees about it and she said we don't carry it anymore. I'm going to talk to the manager and see what he says.

The same here in Ventura County, CA at my Trader Joe's. But I'll check both the nut and flour sections. Great tips about walnut and other nut meals. Maybe I'll get a coffee grinder and make my own from mixed nuts, which are about $5 a pound for raw fancy mixed nuts.

Affordable Almond Meal/Flour

Hi everyone,

It's been some time since I've posted but noticed the posts regarding the absence of almond meal. I live way up north in Wisconsin and our local grocer charges $13.89 a lb. for almond meal. Well, needless to say, I'm not going to pay that for it. So I did a search online to see if I could get it cheaper and I found this site that carries it in 3, 5 and 25 lb. bags for $5.75 lb. It's not the Trader Joe's price, but it's cheaper than most places. Here's the link, hope it's ok to post it - http://www.almondsonline.com/Order/order.html

Another alternative is to grind your own, it's simple with a food processor. A little noisy at first, lol, but once it grinds down a bit it's ok. I get my whole almonds from Sam's Club and have read that grinding whole almonds, not blanched, increases the fiber count therefore reducing the carb count. Just food for thought. I have since started grinding my own when I can't find affordable meal/flour in the area.

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Year's holiday!

Pam

Oh no, you're scared me. I'm going to have to run out to our Trader Joes and grab up some almond flour if they still have it.

I can't believe it! I went to Trader Joe's yesterday and they had it! New price of course...$4.99 for 16oz, still not bad compared to most other places.

LoveMontana & Goldangit... Will the food processor make it (the almonds) into a flour or a meal (not so fine) texture?

Never thought of using the food processor! I tried using my coffee grinder, but I have a small grinder and it created a lot of work.

A Healthy & Happy New Year to all!!!

Hmmm, I just had a Trader Joe's open almost across the street from me. Guess I'm heading there after my shower to check it out!
