Celery Seed vs. Celery Salt

I really have never used either celery seed or celery salt. I want to make Linda's Sue's favorite coleslaw recipe from her site which calls for celery seed. I managed to find the celery salt this morning, not the seed. Can I use the salt instead of the seed or would that not work? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not an expert on this, but since no one's answered, I'll give it a try.

Celery salt is a mixture of ground celery seed and salt. I haven't seen the recipe you're talking about, but if you substitute the celery salt for the celery seed, you probably shouldn't add any additional salt to the recipe. Start with a small amount of the celery salt, taste, then add more if needed.

It won't taste quite the same, but you'll at least get a similar flavor. Those little dark seeds add something to the appearance of the coleslaw too, but that's not important. I'd do what Biscotti suggested and replace the salt in the recipe with celery salt and adjust the amount as needed.

I will need to look for some celery seed then. I made the slaw and it tastes very good, but I bet you are right and the seed just adds something. I will keep looking for the seed since I have noticed more recipes here and there with the seed. Thanks!
