Golden flax meal vs. regular flax meal

Hi all!

What's the difference between gloden flax meal and plain flax meal aside from the lighter color?

I am ready to order from Netrition and cannot decide which one to buy. What's the difference in flavor in these? Also if a recipe calls for either one can they substitute each other? I appreciate the help.

I have not tried the golden flaxmeal yet (just bought it today) but from other posts I've gathered the the flavor isn't as strong... more mild...and yes, it can be used interchangeably.
I think most people prefer the golden flaxmeal, but it's harder to come by.

Hope that helps!

The dark flaxmeal has a nuttier flavor (I prefer it for cereal) but the golden flax is probaby better for recipes because of the milder flavor. Depends on what the recipe is, I suppose.

I use flax daily and I like to blend the two. Especially when making the hot flax meal cereal. For baking, the golden flax gives your product a nice golden color but works still looks great when you mix the two.

I use a lot of this stuff and it's great for keeping the system moving as well.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll try the golden first since the taste is milder. I don't want the taste to be too overwhelming where I won;t ever want to use it again. Thanks again for the responses!

From what I have seen, at least around here, the Golden stuff is the normal stuff. I have yet to see Brown Flax Seed for sale retail, but Golden Flaxseed can be found at any grocery store...

Hmmm, never tried the Golden Flax, sounds nice, but I love the dark Flax meal, love that nutty flavor in my eggs, I always add a dash of flax meal to my scrambled eggs, just makes it taste yummy to me

Around here, it's much easier to find the regular than the golden. DH, who eats it daily as a sort of cereal, prefers the regular - says it tastes better.

I usually use it in muffins where the color is unimportant, since I also use raw wheat bran too.

The golden is more expensive and nutritionally they're the same so I just buy the regular!
