What's the diff between Allspice and Pumpkin pie spice?

I use nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger and sometimes cloves in pumpkin recipes. A recipe I have calls for pumpkin pie spice. I don't have that- I'm wondering what is in it? I also have Allspice.

Pumpkin pie spice is a blend of any or all of the ingredients you mentioned, and unforunately some also add SUGAR! I didn't read the label on the last jar I bought and sugar is the FIRST ingredient! GRRRR!!

Allspice, OTOH, is a small, hard berry-like spice that is ground up - kinda like a peppercorn, but larger. It's used often in baking, soups, and pickling, particularly by the Polish; and it's an ingredient in Jerk seasoning.

You would usually buy it ground but you can also buy the whole "berry" and grind it yourself, or use it whole to flavor pickling liquids.

HTH!
