OK, here's another one - again, untried, but Banta/High Fat friendly. I'd love to hear if anyone decides to try this or the previous one I posted and let me know if it's any good. Didn't even have to tweak this one very much (just upped the olives from 3 tbsp to 1/3 cup and they're optional anyway )

Avacado Delight (HF Plan)
2 avocados
1 (16 oz) container sour cream
1 cup chunky salsa
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1 large tomato, chopped and divided
1/3 cup sliced ripe olives (optional)

Peel and seed avocados. Mash with a fork. Add sour cream, salsa, 1/2 cup cheese, and 1/2 cup tomato. Cover mixture and chill for 1 hour. Before serving sprinkle remaining cheese and tomatoes and olives (if desired). Serve with low-carb veggies (cucumber, celery), or pork rinds.

Servings: 8

Totals:
Total: 2152
Fat: 192 1731 81%
Sat: 93 837 39%
Poly: 12 111 5%
Mono: 75 675 31%
Carbs: 73 195 9%
Fiber: 25 0 0%
Protein: 55 218 10%
Alcohol: 0 0 0%

FYI: I removed the olives and redid the totals and they turn out exactly the same percentages - for those who don't like olives or are like me, trying to keep it fresh )

Enjoy!
Tam

I don't think anyone is really doing Banta very much, that I know of. There's still a Banta thread on the challenge board, but we're doing anything that works for us.

I've been searching but cannot find the Banta Diet explained
simply. Like a program day 1, and so forth.

Can you help lead the way?

Barbo, have you googled it? I used to know but would have to look it up to remember the basics of it. If you can't find it, post again and I will try.

Google banta diet... there's a website that offers (or at least used to offer) free meal plans and recipes (the recipes were also posted here at one time).

In a nutshell... Banta is a highly ketogenic diet with very high fat/low carbs (75-80% fat or higher). There's a nifty little formula to figure out the Keto Index (KI) of foods... anything above 2 was a super fat-burner. (If you "look inside" the book The Banta Diet by Zilberter at Amazon, you can actually see the formula )

Hope that helps some. I need to actually follow it myself, at least during the week while DH is out of town. I lose so much better on higher fat.

There was a list of acceptable foods listed here at one time, too. I didn't see it in a quick search, but I probably have it somewhere.

Thank you Buffy and Dizneegirl

I did Google it and found some information, not exactly all
of it. My neighbor cannot loose on Atkins' unless she does
the fat fast and I thought that the Banta might be of use for
her. Am I to assume that this program works for those of
us who are glucose intolerant and have problem getting
into ketosis the normal Atkins way?
