Kimmer-help with that roast chicken recipe

I tried the one where you said to cook it at 500 degrees....and woh, my whole house filled with smoke. Why was that? I had to turn down the temp to 375 and just cook it the regular way. My place still smells of smoke and chicken. LMAO!

that's funny. the same thing happened to me last sunday, but i just opened the windows and left it at 500.

Some of the spices turned black, but the skin didn't burn, it was just nice and crispy and the inside was still moist.

it was a pretty good recipe, but I think I'll avoid the smoke next time and take the time to cook it at a lower temperature.

Glad I'm not the only one. I felt like an idiot. I can't cook anyway. I had all the windows open too....but still smells. The neighbors must think I am nuts.

That smoke didn't likely come from the chicken but from previous deposits in the oven.

Whoa ladies! LOL, sorry ... picturing your houses filled with smoke, sounds like something from "I Love Lucy"!

Hmmm, I'd have to go with Doug. Was there anything in the oven ... leftover stuff on the bottom, anything in the pan, junk on the broiler pans?

I make my chicken most often the 500 degree way because it's summer and I want the oven off quick. No smoke, though.

Sorry it didn't work for you. The 350 degree chicken will work also and makes your house smell yummy for a long time!

No, clean oven here. I am thinking it was the oil I rubbed on the chicken?

Maybe.
I'm careful about how close the meat is to the burners inside the oven.....usually, I choose the middle rack so that it isn't too close to the top or the bottom.

Once it's done, if I want more browning, I move it up near broiler rack and set it for Lo broil...I stay there and watch it!
