how many carbs in scallions?

I have a recipie for a dip that includes scallions, how many carbs are in them? Are they carbs less than onions, like what is the carb count for 1 cup of scallions, and for 1 cup of onions? Thanks a bunch, I looked in ****** and no luck!

I use them a lot and enter them as onions, young, green - or something like that. Some peole call them green onions or spring onions, so I think it's the same thing.

****** says 1.1 carb for one medium sized onion. I only use the white part and the light green part, though.

I'm confused I thought scallions were the things that looked like pretty small onions or atleast thats what my grocery calls them, and thats what they look like on food network. But what your describing (above) sound like a green onion, (small white onion with a long green stem?) Am I wrong??
Thanks Tiffany

ok does this sound right? I found a website that had veg. nutrional values, and it saud for 1 cup scallions chopped minus fiber alittle over 5 carbs, and for 1 cup chopped onion, alittle over 14 carbs, does this sound right? If so can I use scallions instead of onions for everything, I mean thats a huge carb difference, can anyone please help me w/ this, I've been wondering this for a long time! Thanks so much

I think you're thinking about shallots. From cooking.com:

Shallot is the small member of the onion family, with papery brown skin, purple-tinged white flesh, and a flavor resembling a cross between sweet onion and garlic. Look for firm, well-shaped heads that are not sprouting. Store in a cool, dry place for up to 1 month. Shallots pickled in vinegar figure prominently in Asian recipes.

Scallions are also known as green onions and refer to a distinct variety of immature onions. The vegetable has a white base that has not fully developed into a bulb and green leaves that are long and straight. Both parts are edible. Store in the refrigerator, wrapped for up to five days. They can be eaten raw or cooked in numerous dishes from soups to salads.

****** says that one tablespoon of shallots has 1.68 g of carbs.

Yes, scallions are the same as green onions, and I do use them instead of regular onions in everything because they are much lower in carbs.

Yep, you can definitely sub scallions for onions. But subbing shallots might not be a good idea - I think they're pretty carby (as far as onions go).
