Is almond meal the same as almond flour?

I get almond meal at Trader Joe's and thought that's what was meant by almond floud. But then I was at Whole Foods and they have almond flour, and it has the actual consistency of flour.

Are they the same? Can they be used interchangably? What would be the difference if you used the meal instead of the flour?

Help!!!

They are essentially the same - almond meal just isn't as fine as almond flour.

I buy my almond meal from TJ's, too.

Almond meal is ground almonds.

Almond flour is ground from the cakes left after they press the oil out of the almonds.

Almond meal is a little coarser and more oily than almond flour.

You can use them fairly interchangeably... just keep in mind the coarser/oiler difference. Almond meal might result in a little denser product.
