fried twinkies

i was at our annual living history festival, which started tonight and lasts all weekend, today. everyone there was eating junk - curly fries with cheese sauce, barbecue sandwiches, funnel cakes, chili and i was so happy with my diet coke. but i almost puked (sorry ) when my son came up and announced that one of the churches was selling deep fried twinkies! i have heard of these and other deep fried sweets, but omg the thought just disgusted me! i used to eat almost all of my meals there for the entire weekend but tonight came home and had baked chicken with "faux mashed potatoes" and a really nice big salad! (i did treat my boys to funnel cakes - since this woe, we have not had any sweets in our house and i cook lc for the whole family - 16 yo is very obese and so is hubby, so it doesn't hurt them. however 13 yo is 5'7.5" and weighs no more than 130 and an athlete - can't seem to keep weight on no matter what he eats and he eats every hour or so when he is awake and at home. takes after my dad argh!

Food writer/cooking show hostess Nigella Lawson LOVES to fry Mars and Bounty bars....never tried them, but they looked "interesting."

I have to say.....of course prior to Atkins....I was las vegas this spring.....and had both the deep fried twinkies and....deep fried snickers bars.
All I'll say is.......they taste ten times better than they sound......especially the snickers........they fall into the omg catagory!!!
I saw this summer they had deep fried oreo's at our fair....but I didn't try them...........
But....now......they are bad....bad,..bad...bad

I saw on TV yesterday a brief segment from a Texas state fair where the "hit" item this year is ... "chicken fried Oreos."

I can't imagine ... for a variety of possible reasons ...

I've seen Nigella cook her deep fried Bounty bars (for a treat only though) and they do look awfully nice. Gooey chocolate in a crisp shell. Twinkies though....hmmm.

Yep, our state fair just closed a few days ago, and the rage was chocolate-covered EVERYTHING (from cheesecake wedges to cookies to fresh or dried fruit) and battered and deep-fried candies/cookies. Oreos, twinkies, snickers, 3 musketeers--you name it, they'll stick a stick in it, batter it and fry it up for you. Unbelievable.

Luckily, the fair is only two weeks out of the year....and there are pork chops and turkey legs out there, too!!

Ok, maybe I'm weird, but I think deep fried Twinkies and especially candy bars sound awesome!! I would love to try one, but probably never will as I fear I would love them too much!!

I do have a recipe for deep friend Twinkies that I got out of Woman's World. Don't know why I kept it, but I just can't throw it away!!

Candy bars I can go for but I just can't get my head around the Twinkie. I remember being bought a whole box of them once waaaay back when I had been ill for weeks and I ate the whole box. I adored them! Then last year I went to the States and ate a Twinkie and it made me gag it was so sweet. I was quite upset.

I have ignored this thread all day since I can't imagine a fried twinkie. The original twinkie is awful enough... Finally, I just had to know. Now I know But seeing would be believing

I've had fried ice cream. It's a cinamonny cornflake-type mixture that a ball of ice cream is rolled in and then very quickly deep-fried (sometimes it's not even fried). It's not too memorable, to be truthful.

The Twinkies taste 100 times better than they sound. They serve them up drizzled with chocolate and dusted with powdered sugar.

I am happy to report that I had a bite of one and didn't eat the whole thing .

To do it LC:

Take your LC treat of choice, put a skewer through it & stick it in the freezer until it's good and cold. While it freezes make up a batch of your favorite LC pancake batter and cool that off in the fridge. Heat your oil. Take your frozen treat-on-a-stick, coat with the pancake batter, and fry a few minutes to golden brown.

Let it cool a minute so you don't get a mouth full of hot oil! Then post about the experience here.

The only thing left to figure out is what to deep fry. Beachgirl cheesecake? Snickerdoodles?

Eat one of these five times a day and hooray, you're fat fasting, this is the greatest diet ever!

Actually, deep fried ice cream has been around for as long as I can remember, I'm 36.

I'ts served in mexican restaraunts in California and Arizona. Don't know if it's actually a mexican dessert of one of those things we americans like to add to the menu. I'm pretty sure it has a mexican name but I can't think of it right now.

The funny thing is, I've seen it on mexican food menus for as long as I can remember but I've never had any...

Your idea sounds really neat. Have you actually done any of it? Any results you would care to share?
