Sugar Free Tomato Sauce?

For those that "buy" it, where do you "buy it"? I have scanned every store in my area and not one carries it. I don't want to make it. I live in south east Florida.

Thanks

Are you talking about the kind that comes in little 8 ounce cans or spaghetti sauce? Most of the 8 ounce kind that I've seen have no sugar. I usually buy Kroger's brand.

I just look at my Classico (from Costco) and Trader Joe's for sugar and neither has any in them.

SF tomato sauce

I am also looking for SF tomato sauce. I would appreciate hearing where you can find it.

WLS, where do you live (general info please) in SE Florida?

I know you don't want to make it, but if all else fails, put a can of whole tomatoes in the blender & blend until smooth. Most national brands do have that 2% or less of added dextrose(sugar). That helps to knock some of the acidity taste in the tomatoes.

Hunts tomato sauce does not list any sugar in the ingredients. You should be able to find it nationwide.

I'm not sure if you're saying you can't find tomato sauce at all or that you can't find any with no sugar added. If you can't find tomato sauce, maybe you're not looking in the right place. I usually find it with the canned vegetables and not with the spaghetti sauce. Tomato sauce is something that they should sell everywhere, but I have noticed that Albertson's can be funny about not selling common things. A long time ago, my grandma was looking for canned navy beans or great northern beans and they didn't sell either one.

not to argue but,

Hunt's 8 oz no salt added tomato sauce does have added sugar. It is listed as dextrose. It is less than 2 % of total.

hunts original

The label on my 8 oz. Hunts tomato sauce lists the ingredients as tomato puree (water, tomato paste), water, less than 2% of: salt, citric acid, spice, tomato fiber, natural flavor.

The nutrition facts for a 1/4 cup serving are: fat 0, sodium 380mg, total carbs 3g, fiber less than 1g, sugars 2g, protein less than 1g.

No dextrose is listed. It is not the salt free kind. It is the original, plain sauce.

I have emailed Conagra foods to find out what the vague reference to "spice" is and if the tomato paste in the ingredients list has any hidden sugars that are not listed. I assume the 2g of sugars are the natural sugar in tomatoes.

Got an answer

Got a telephone call today from a rep at Conagra.

She could not tell me what spices were in the ingredients of the Hunts tomato sauce because it is part of their secret recipe.

She said that if I was allergic to something specific, she could tell me if that particular thing was in the recipe.

She assured me that there are no added sugars or starches in the spice, or any of the ingredients listed on the label. The only sugars in the sauce is the natural sugar contained in the tomatoes themselves.

This is only for the plain original tomato sauce, not any of the special recipe sauces. The have all the added ingredients on the label.

Ragu also has a "No Sugar" added variety that is pretty decent. I have only seen it at SuperWalmart, but in your area, a regular grocery store may carry it.
