So, Can you eat raw unground flax seed out of the bag on top of food

So, can you eat flax seed raw and unground. Many theories floating about, I just pour it out of the bag on yogurt.

TIA

I eat it that way, mix in tuna or egg salad, sprinkle it on regular salad or even mix it in with an omlet..it doesn't have much taste and that way I get a few spoonfulls every day

You mean the whole seeds? Well, a nutritionist I know said that eating flax that way adds roughage, but most of the nutritional value of the flax is lost, since your body will just pass the whole seeds without breaking them down. So I guess it wouldn't hurt, but may not help a whole lot either.

Thanks for the posts. I do mean the Whole seeds..I notice they ahem, do pass through. Do you think I should grind them, or does it make a difference

WOE: stay away from the sugar
Grind them up at lest enough to open the seed pods. If you eat them whole they pass right through and you get no nitritional value from them. Grinding them releases the "nut" which is where the nutrition comes from. They also taste good when you can actually taste the nutty part.
