What are your FAVORITE low carb ready-made items?
Hi all,
I am a newbie and just starting out on Atkins. I feel alive and have more energy than I have had in a loooong time. I am doing okay with the menu and it's great to see everyone's fave dishes on here! However, I was wondering what items do you buy at the store that are easily deemed low carb to add to your menu. I have had cravings for cookies, but cookies I can eat instantly that won't derail my progress. Also, pancake mixes, muffin mix? Any low carb suggestions will help me add a variety to my menu so I can keep on chugging! |

I don't find many of these in the stores, other than lc tortillas.
But check out the netrition marketplace on this site. They have MANY low carb things like muffin mixes, pancake mixes etc. Order as much as you want for only $4.95 shipping. |

I went to the moives with my son and took a kind bar. I ate half for about 5 carbs it was so crunchy and sweet. I also like Mrs. Mays products. The carbs can add up but it is only once in a while I eat a small amount and are satisfied.

My advice to you is to stay away from the "products" that mimic high-carb items. This will only keep your cravings intact, which can cause other issues. Keep it as natural and clean as possible until you get closer to goal, then maybe start experimenting with what you can add back in. Just my two cents. And welcome!

when it comes to eating 'instant' snacks, I always turn to mozarella sticks, salami slices or sliced lunch meat, Sugar free sweet pickles, peanuts in a small individual package, or roasted soynuts. Pumpkin seeds can be helpful. Beef Jerky can help you through a tough spot.

Although what you are eating is low in carbohydrates, you are not following a "low-carb program". Besides, low carb doesn't mean eating almost zero carbs, it means choosing the best nutrition for the ammount of carbs you're alloted. (usually starting with 20 grams per day and then going up from there) My suggestion is to find a program and follow their guidelines. As you follow that program, you might find that the particular program you are on isn't working for you--one way or another. It's OK to switch. I started following the American Diabetes Association dietary guidelines, but found that Atkins helped me lose weight AND bring my blood sugars down to what I wanted. In a different area of this Board, there are discussions on different eating plans. Read through and find out what you like the best. Good Luck!! Defessa

I am so new at this. I 've never no/low carbed before. I have had some medical problems this year and was put on bed rest and I gained 21 pounds. and I am having a horrible time losing them. I just want to be back to normal quickly. So any information you can share with me would be wonderful. Thanks![]() ![]() Last edited by fire27503; 10-31-2009 at 08:40 PM.. |
