Week 5, Carb -Up

Changed Carb-up day as I knew I would be out all day first with a friend than with family, specifically an Aunt who always wants to order dessert first - Gotta love an aunt like that Anyway, not the best day, probally over did it. I seem to be doing that on all carb-up days although the last one did not show a gain so not so bad

M1 Mcdonalds bagel, steak, egg, and cheese, took off half bagel and cheese - not a great choice

M2 1/2 turkey sandwhich with tomato soup and chips at Panera, small bag reeses pieces

M3 Choc EAS protein shake

M4 Chicken Potpie at Bob Evans, 1/4 piece pumkin bread, 1/2 piece banana bread, 1 roll, dessert (apple dumpling? with vanilla ice cream

M5 2 small scoops peppermint icecream

I know I know toooooooo much food, I really felt it after Bob Evans but shopped for two hours so hopefully worked some of it off

Tam - the one thing I see right off is too much sugar (especially for Carb Down) Save your honey for baseline. I won't say anything about the candy because you already know

Also you are substituting 2 of your MOST IMPORTANT PROTEIN snacks for FAT SNACKS - I would get some lean protein in for one of those. When you do almonds don't do PB and vice versa

I knew the candy was a cheat- simply a BAD thing to do, but is 1/2 t honey too much? OY- I stopped sweetening the muffin w/ stevia- I'll start again, and just skip the honey...
As for the nuts- you're right- I'll save nuts/PB only for when I am "meaty" and can't have dairy- but if I have cottage cheese as a snack, I won't be able to have it for dinner (only 1/2 cup a day, right?)- so I am still short a protein.
Today I'll have tuna, but I can't handle that daily.
This protein business has always been a problem for me...

What about your soy dogs as a protein source? I think honey would be ok for your baseline days

They're great-afew times a week, I guess.... just don't want to overdo the soy- I already have very low carb soymilk in my coffee- it has less than 0.5 gr. of carbs per cups, cancelled out by the fiber.... Will alternate.
Thanks so much for your help!!! and your memory!!! Better be careful- you remember everything I write!!
Waddya say about my pumpkin query?

Hi! First time posting a menu--This is my first Carb Up day--Week 2--The thing is that I will be fasting starting tomorrow morning (Thursday) until Friday late afternoon for a medical procedure, so I am actually considering adding a couple of cookies or some kind of dessert plus wine, which is ordinarily not recommended for the second week carb up--love to hear what you all think. I believe my glycogen is going to get seriously depleted no matter what:

Here is the plan for today-

B: 2 slices EZ toast and butter/egg whites

s: cottage cheese

L: Turkey/string cheese rollups and green beans

s: small 6 inch sub and small bag of chips

d: Taking a friend out to Italian for her birthday--I have been lowcarbing for so many years that the idea of eating pasta frightens me a bit, so I was considering having bread and butter, chicken parmigiana, and maybe splitting a dessert --and definitely having a glass of wine

Thoughts?>?

What day W2? If you started on Monday- no carb-up this week.... if it's the 6th day, that's fine.

Pasta is no higher glycemic than bread- in fact if it's semolina pasta, or hard durum, it's much lower- you'll be having it with protein and fat- I wouldn't worry if I were you, especially since it's totally legal on carb-up days.

As for the sweets and alcohol during W2, not reccomended, but you are fasting.... though the fast may be easier if you DON'T eat them- as your blood sugar will get less of a jolt... jury's out- go with your heart.... after the pasta/bread you may not even want the dessert... see how it goes!

W9D3- carbdown

M1-shake and muffin- w/butter and honey (no honey tomorrow- promise!!)
M2-2T.PB w/2 stalks celery
M3-very lean roast beef in mushrooms w/ 1/2 c. rice
M4-tuna salad- Hellmans Lite Mayo, celery and red onions- yum!!
M5-1/2 cottage cheese, red pepper and cherry tomatoes

Think I'm done for today- If I'm starving later I'll have 1 slice LF cheese (a protein according to Jerri- much more protein than fat)

Is this better than yesterday?

Thanks for the menu help, Kelley!
Less hungry tonight on less calories- that tuna in the early evening (M4) really helped- usually by 11pm I start getting really hungry, and go to sleep like that also- not condusive for a good night's sleep!!
Your wisdom is priceless... maybe now I will lose some weight....

Tam - I'm glad you were more satisfied. If you are going to bed hungry you aren't eating enough. My rule of thumb for this WOE is grab my protein first! Today is my Carb Up and I'm treating myself to a slice of Gingerbread this morning but I just ate a few turkey slices to get me satisfied. Hope your day has been lovely and your evening is even better!

Calorie wise it's probably the same, but the protein sticks better, I guess! Other than a rough patch at the end of this morning (spent cooking...) I'm doing great today- I just grabbed a piece of chicken as a snack, and ignored the bad cravings.

Thanks again for your help and patience with me!

Have a great day!!

Okay Vladis, this is per your request girlfriend.

Typical carb down: meal #1 omelette made with 1 whole and 2 whites with some kind of veggies like peppers and onions and sprinkle of low fat cheese,(chedder or feta). Or Wendys cheeseburger thing with extremely low fat ground beef and low fat chedder. meal#2 Okay, this hasn't really been approved but I've been having it since day one and had really good successannon Light&Fit smoothie and 12 almonds. The smoothie has 60 cal,2.5g fat and only 4g carbs, which I counted during carb deplete.
Meal #3 If I have the above breakfast then I will have a sandwich on EZ bread for lunch. Usually it's tuna made with one can and 1 whole egg mixed with 1tbsp Kraft lite mayo,(the one with the olive oil in it).
Meal #4 EAS advanEdge shake with 17g protein
Meal #5 is usually baked chicken, broccoli and some other veggie.I also like to grill salmon for a change or occasionally a small serving of steak.

That's carb down for me. Sometimes we will have the carbs for breakfast and have oatmeal and 1 whole hard boiled egg and 2 egg whites. If I do this,I have a salad with either tuna or chicken and a little feta with low fat dressing for lunch.

Baseline days are basically the same but I would have the oatmeal for breakfast AND the sandwich for lunch.

As for fats,I always measure what I cook with. It's a habit from weightwatchers. It's very easy to get carried away if you do it the Rachel Rae way. What that girl calls a tbsp. is rediculous!

I get kind've creative with my chicken sometimes so we don't get too bored but on the whole,I stick to the simple things. Oh and one of my favorite things is that cheeseburger salad for dinner on carb down days.

On carb up,I've been eating whatever I want starting with lunch. I haven't once felt guilty about it. I wouldn't say I have gorged but I have eaten until I was full.

Also I pretty much do some form of excercise almost every day. I may miss one day and sometimes 2 but I don't like doing that.

Not sure if this helps you but you said you were interested in knowing what I eat. So there it is. dede

Dede--is a cheeseburger salad just a salad with sauteed ground beef and melted cheese, or something else?

Hey there, it is on the recipe thread: But like you said basically a cheesburger without the bun and more lettuce, tomatoes, onions.

I just take whatever I put on a burger and throw it in a bowl, cut the burger up and have a yummy meal.

W3D3- carb up- moved it up a day

Since I did pretty much a deplete (using pumpkin as my starch) Sun. and Mon., I allowed myself to move my carb-up up one day. It may have caused my cravings, along with not drinking enough and stepping up my exercise...
M1-shake and muffin
M2-1T PB, 20gr SF chocolate B4 my walk (totalled 4.5 miles today)
M3-Salmon, veggie barley soup, macaroon cake (it's just eggwhites, sugar and coconut, baked as a cake- homemade- yum!)
M4-banana
M5-rice w/1/2 c. milk cinnamon and 1t. sugar(favorite comfort food), cheesecake (I use 5% cheese, and besides the sour cream topping, it's fairly low fat)
Not too bad- first time I really kept the fat down, but am afraid to weigh this morning- I know I shouldn't , but have masochistic tendencies
