Here's what we had for dinner ... (pic enclosed)
I finally decided to try the Deep Dish Pizza everyone here talks about. I've put it off forever because it seemed it would be hard to make. Not only was it NOT hard ... but it was good.
AND ... I didn't tell my boys it was low carb. They had a friend over and between the 3 of them ... they finished off 1 and 1/2 of the pies all by themselves. When I told them it was low carb they raved, "It was GOOD!" If each pie is cut into 6 pieces (believe me that is enough!) there are only 4 carbs and one of them is fiber for a net count of 3! AND ... only 301 calories. Just wanted to share with the group in case anyone else had thought about trying it. ![]() |

It's from Linda Sue's Recipes. My gosh she is so awesome. Having pictures really helps me to decide if I want to make something or not. Here is the recipe and the link:
Deep Dish Pizza DEEP DISH PIZZA 4 ounces cream cheese, softened 2 eggs 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, 1 ounce (I used the kind in a can) 1/4 teaspoon oregano or Italian seasoning 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 8 ounces Italian cheese blend or mozzarella cheese, shredded 1/4 cup pizza sauce 4 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded Assorted toppings: pepperoni, ham, sausage, 4 ounce can mushrooms, green peppers, bacon, ground beef, etc. Dash of garlic pepper or garlic powder and some Italian seasoning for top of pizza In a medium bowl, whisk cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Whisk in eggs until mixture is well-blended and smooth. Add the parmesan and seasonings, then stir in the 8 ounces of mozzarella until completely moistened. Spread cheese mixture evenly in a well-greased 9x13" glass baking dish or lightly greased and lined with parchment paper (see note below). Bake at 375º 20-25 minutes or until evenly browned, but not too dark. Let cool completely on a wire rack. When nearly cooled, take a metal spatula and carefully pry up the edges to loosen from pan. Ease the spatula under the whole crust to loosen. Keep crust in the pan. This makes it easier to remove the finished pizza later. Refrigerate, uncovered, until shortly before serving time. Spread chilled crust with pizza sauce, then cheese and toppings of your choice. Lightly sprinkle with seasonings of your choice. Bake at 375º about 15-20 minutes or until toppings are bubbly. Let stand a few minutes before cutting. Makes 8 servings Can be frozen Per Serving: 304 Calories; 25g Fat; 17g Protein; 3g Carbohydrate; 1g Dietary Fiber; 2g Net Carbs My carb counts are a bit different because I counted the toppings I used. I topped mine with ground beef, pepperoni, mushrooms and a fresh tomato! YUM! You guys gotta try this. It is SO worth it. AND ... if my kids hadn't eaten it all I could have existed on it all week! I have made this before (it was a recipe off of another recipe board, but it is similar) and I gave it to my parents (not even close to low carbers) and they loved it!
Thanks for the reminder about the recipe, I'm going to make it again. |

I make this all the time - I like mine with nothing on it - so I take a piece every so often as a "snack" instead of a meal. I never thought about freezing it - but I might try that.
When I do make it as a meal - I "pile" all kinds of things on it - and you're right - it's VERY filling. |

I make this alot and just love it. One tip I can offer is when I loosen the crust, I also flip it over. Then put the toppings on. Always make an extra pizza to keep in the freezer...you only have to do the work once for lots of meals. I have even made the pizza ( in a 9x13 pan) cut it into square pieces and put is zip to bags for a fast grab and go meal. If you haven't tried this you really should. Another idea is to make the crust, really thin, bake and use as noodles for lasagne. Yum!

Because of this thread I made this for supper tonight. It's gone. Next time I'm gonna have to make a double batch! Even DH said it was okay and he'd eat it again. Big praise from a non-lowcarber!

I made this tonight and kinda threw all of the crust ingredients in a large bowl and then used a hand mixer. I pressed it into a 9x13 glass baking dish (sprayed with olive oil spray) and the crust was nice and brown after about 22 min. I didn't cool it. I topped it with sauce, ground beef, pepperoni and italian 4 cheese shredded cheese....OMG! It was to die for! I will definitely keep the ingredients on hand for the crust and get creative with the toppings!
Thanks for the recipe! |

Totally going to try this one. I love the crustless pizza where you spread out the meat really thin and bake it first then add the toppings, but I'm always looking for a new way to do pizza.

I never thought about flipping it over. I bet that would REALLY make it crispy. And as for making noodles out of the crust, that is a thought also. I have been wanting to make a lasagna but didn't want to try the zucchini noodles a lot of low carbers have used. I didn't really care for the spinach lasagna too much. It was OK, but I don't want to eat food that is OK. I want to eat food that is good. This recipe is so much a keeper. I am very thankful to have found it. This is going to be a staple. |

I can eat food that is good, not just "OK" when low carbing. This pizza is an excellent example. It is amazing what some fat, protein and fresh veggies can do for a recipe. YUM! |

I just made this tonight and it's DA-LISH!
My mom has watched me low-carbin' it for the last few months and, seeing me steadily lose weight, has wanted to start but has hemmed and hawed back and forth. Well, she finally started on Saturday (after I sent her some of these great boards and she read all your great advice!), and tonight I made this and invited her over for dinner.....she couldn't BELIEVE how great low carb can taste! Now she's all excited. In fact, she's probably cruisin' these boards as we speak! ![]()

Sounds great!! I usually just make my family a pizza and make myself a small dish of toppings. It would be nice to have some sort of a crust. The noodle idea is awesome I can't wait to try it !

The crust is the best part! When I took just the crust out of the oven, it was everything I could do not to dig into it right then and there. And it's smells divine!
I'm going to make some of the crust and use it like bread with my salads. Yum! |
