I have a crock pot and have never used it. I guess I'm terrified of leaving the house with it on and burning down the house. Am I just being paranoid?

Yesterday I had country-style ribs in the crockpot all day, with a bit of S&P sprinkled on them. Just before it was time to eat, I covered them with my own homemade SF BBQ sauce* and grilled them for a few minutes on the grill. They were fall-apart delicious.
*Found this recipe on these boards: one container of Heinz One Carb ketchup, poured into a small pot. Add one can of diet cola (I used Coke Zero) and a splash of liquid smoke. Low boil/simmer for awhile, stirring quite a bit. It thickens up nicely, especially after being overnight in the fridge. And so easy!
