hey sistah
Im on my 3rd day of induction (this is like my 4th time restarting but I seem to be stayin on track now).
Being from the Caribbean I know all about the high fat high carb foods: You can see from my hips!! Would love to join a support group for us "sistahs". I also have problems with some clothes not fitting right. Either too tight on top or too tight on the bottom. C'mon where all my sistahs at? |

I'll join!
Just had a baby so I thought my boobs and butt would have expanded but now I'm the size I was before I even had my son who is now 6! (I have 2 kids, 6 y.o. and 3 wk old). So I am really excited and it was a nice welcome considering the women in my family usually gain weight with pregnancy in the hips and butt. As for the clothing issue.....ugh! I hate going to the store and the jeans are loose everywhere except for around the waist and butt. It drives me crazy because my pants usually look baggy on me until I lift up my shirt and I am at the point where I would like to tuck in some of my shirts without it looking like I tied a garbage bag around me with a piece of rope. There needs to be an economical line of clothing geared towards African-American womens' shapes so I don't have pay more expensive prices or search the whole D.C. area for a pair of nice fitting pants. *sigh* LOL

I'm in....
I have 50lbs I'm trying to lose now. So far I've lost about 10 and I've been doing this, still in induction, for about 2 1/2 weeks now. I put on half the weight during pregnancy 3 1/2 years ago and the other 30 within the last 3 years.
I have an even bigger challenge because tomorrow is my nephews 6 birthday party and I've been asked to do the macaroni and cheese, baked you know and it's one of my favorite things to make and I haven't made it in so long because of this Atkins plan. How will I get through tomorrow without eating even one bite of my own dish.....LOL. Shine 185/172[B]/125 |

What a great idea for a thread! I'm almost at goal, with only about 7 pounds left to go. Yes, clothes shopping can be frustrating for us, but I think things are improving. Maybe now that "J-Lo" butt is in vogue, it may be easier for us to shop for clothes. It's funny because when I was in school, black girls were teased about the shape of their butts, but now I see a lot of catalogs selling panties with panties in the rear to get them to look like ours (oops, I mean J-Lo's).

I am about a size 16-18 and want to be a size 9-10. I am very top heavy. (44 DDD). My husband wants me to stay thick and not to lose too much of that cushion. Actually he doesn't want me to loose anything. (He will get over it). I will try to post pictures this evening. I have always been told that I am pretty and have had men but it is an individual thing for me. Ya Know!
I am a credit analyst for a bank in Bridgeview, IL and I live in Chicago. I am 27, just finished my Masters Degree. My graduation is June 22nd and I would like to loose 20 pounds for the event. (I may be asking for a miracle.) Started Atkin’s in Jan. have lost about 15-20 pounds. I have been on a cheating spell for the past month I can’t seem to get back on track. I am fluctuating between 210 and 215. My highest ever was 240 I lost 10 on Weight Watchers and the Firm workout tapes. |

Hey sistah girls,
This looks like a great challenge. I was reading and definitely relating to both the clothing fit (I always buy separates because dresses usually don't fit my top and bottom) and whoa on the mac and cheese. That is my dish that I am expected to make for the family gatherings and it is a challenge not to eat any. All I can suggest is this--don't go overboard with the amount you make (yes, there can be such a thing as no leftovers and people don't have to be able to get third helpings), and then let everyone else get served first from that dish. By the time you get to that dish, good manners will force you to only take a little and that is a victory. Well, that's all for now and I will check in later. Val |

Hello All,
Thank you for starting this post. I honestly can relate to the clothing issue. My thighs are much bigger than my waist, and my junk in my trunk does not help the situtation . If I find my size in the store and try them on, the legs fit but the waist is wayyyyyy to big. In my case i figured that I need to either gain alot of weight or lose alot of weight. I have chossen to lose alot and see what happens.I have tried the expensive J-Lo line, but i think my (brickhouse) figure does not agree with the clothing. I'm happy i found this site and I am glad to see so many sistahs battling the bulge. Keep up the good work girls, it will all pay off in the end.

Hello to all,
I just restarted induction after quite some time. I guess I need to check my pic to remember when I first attempted Atkins. After watching Oprah's special the other day on people who lost weight with no pills, surgery, etc... I made up my mind. I joined ediets/Atkins Plan. I started last week but had to travel out of town for business and visited very close family friends. They were cooking all of my favorite carb loaded West Indian dishes...I'm originally from Trinidad. I was proud of myself because I only nibbled on small amounts of carbs and kept my plate loaded with salad and protein. I officially started on Monday 5/5/03. I have never been this heavy....but I am on my way down. Fergie Re-induction stats: 206.5/202.5/140 |

I am so excited to see so many of us here!! I was starting to wonder if I was the only one! (Even though I think I saw one other lady in the main lobby.)
So let's get to know one another so as more of us join, we will be able to keep track of one another. My name is Sylvia, and I am in the western suburbs of Chicago, about 35 min. outside of Chicago. I am single and have an 11yr. old daughter. I used to be a casino dealer for 8 1/2 years, and made good money and friends at it, but I got back in church and I soon got tired of the madness and had to leave the casino. I am currently running my own business in the wholesale travel industry. I started the Atkins diet the first time in 00, or 01, I can't remember, and lost 42 lbs. I was on top of the world! Anyway, I had a few stressful events and vacation where I went off the diet on purpose as to not be stressed out on vacation and I just couldn't get back on the diet. I tried several times throughout the year but never stuck with it. I am now on it but I am doing the Body For Life program also. I am only following the exercise part of it, not the eating plan. It is a 12-week program and I just completed week 12! I will post my pictures as soon as I have my daughter take them. I can't really weigh myself because as I am losing fat lbs. I am gaining muscle weight, but I can feel and see a difference. I am losing inches and I see my butt is not riding my back anymore! I also feel stronger, I don't feel like I am dragging myself around, I feel like I can actually carry my weight, and that's saying alot! I can really ramble so I will cut this short. Look forward to hearing from everyone soon! |

can I play ? pleeeaase!
Hey sistah's- what's up? Well, I just started reinducting yesterday because I let myself get way out of hand! It started innocently enough with a treat here, a bite there and the next thing I knew, I was eating almost every carb in sight! I had gotten down to 188-well on my scale yesterday I was 196! aw heck no!
So here I am. As far as finding clothes, I got the hips and the boobs-but no butt! (can u believe a sistah with no butt!) I used to have a small waist and was built nice but now-the gut has got to go. Anyway, I figure If I join a challenge/checkin this time I will be more accountable! I'm late night poster-so I'll see Yall later kat I can do ALL things through Christ.... ![]() |

Okay, my name is Frances but everyone calls me Shine (or Sunshine, nickname since birth). I am 27 years old, Aries, and a single mom to Damian(3). We live in Miami
As I said before, I began this WOE on April 21 and decided to keep myself in induction for a bit longer but I think I'm stalled right now. Don't really know what went wrong but I'm not at the weight I even wish I could be. So I'll have to tighten the belt even more. I look forward to posting and reading more later. Take care. Hello Sistahs!!!!
I think this is really great!!! I'm a married mother of three. I'm 33 yrs old and so thrilled to be a part of this thread. I have been doing this woe since the end of March to date I've lost 15 pounds. I have another 10 pounds to go to reach my goal. Then I decided that I will try to lose another five more. If it happens it happens I'm in no rush for the last five. My sis and I have decided to have a tummy tuck. Having kids destroyed my body!
I hear the last ten pounds are the hardest but I won't get discouraged. I'm currently on day three of my fat fast. I hate to stall and the fat fast helps me to break it. Tomorrow hubby wants to take me to dinner for mother's Day but I don't wanna go. I'm lying, I do wanna go But I wanna be thin even more. I may just go and have some of the foods allowable when on induction. What do you ladies think. I will follow your advice. Thanks !!! Tonya, NYC Start Date: March 28, 2003 Start Weight: 160 Current weight: 145 Goal weight: 135 Height: 5'5"

Happy Saturday everyone!! Glad you're here!
Tonya, I would suggest that you go on out to dinner and have a great time! Just go to a seafood restaurant or a steakhouse. I would also suggest that you stay away from the Italian places...pasta !Kathy, congratulations on your 40 lb. loss!! That is awesome! I lost 40 once but somehow they all found me! What a cute little girl you have there! A little doll!Nkitajolie, If you have images saved to your computer, go toPhotoisland . There you can upload and save your photos on their website for free and then you can save them in their 'auction' and then use that URL to post them here. If you need any help just let me know, I'll be glad to help out. Hi Sunshine, Single mom here too! Good to know you! Shelley, Thanks for stopping in! Kunique, I didn't know J-Lo had a line of clothing. I will have to look some of them up on the web. I hope she has a website. Pickrere, I live in the suburbs of Chicago also, far West. Maybe we can go to dinner or lunch sometime. I am currently putting together a Chicago Low-carb get-together. Go to the 'Low Carb Gatherings' link on this board and look for 'Chicago'. Sugar P, That's great to only have 7 lbs. to go. I have a while to go before I get that close to goal! When I get that close, nobody probably can tell me anything!!! ![]() Fergie, How long have you been here in the cont. U.S.? Hello to everyone else I missed! Maybe once we all are here and some new 'sistahs' join, we can have a post that stays with intros of everybody. I'll look into seeing just how to do that. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to post them! |

Hi all!
I would like to join !! YES! Some LC Sistah's! A little about me. I am 29, just recently grew a bitter taste in my mouth for my hometown so I moved to Atlanta, all by myself. I have gained about 15 lbs here, on top of the 35 I gained back from my big loss last summer. Now I am trying to get all of this fat off. The one thing that is comforting which I am sure has been repeated over and over is how much black women have it differently than others. A lot of black men don't want a stick figure woman so women don't have to lose so much weight that they look sick, just enough to look healthy. That's what I like anway. When I would look around my old hometown, I only saw black men with these blond stick figures and it made me feel like I wasn't worthy. NOw I look around ATlanta and I see black women of all shapes and sizes and their men look PROUD to be with them! That's what I really want.... someone to be proud to be with me, and I want to be proud that I look good. I just recently met a very nice gentelman, he's from Africa, studying law. Had our first date last night and he did not at all seem to notice the extra lbs. Men in my old hometown would just crinkle their nose and end the date early... I am NOT kidding. Anyway. I am happy to join ya'll and see you online! if anyone would like to add me to their Instant Messengers, I am skinnymocah@hotmail.com on MSN skinnychic on AOL skinnymocahspokane on yahoo. |

How was everybody's weekend...
My nephew's b-day party went well but I can't say the same for my macaroni....I hadn't made such an amount in so long and this time I don't know what went wrong because my baked mac and cheese is the bomb. I think it was either the cheese, sharp instead of my usual mild, or the sour cream. But I may do it again this weekend for his mom's baby shower and I'll make a smaller but better amount.
I did have to taste it, only had like one tablespoon honest. Didn't want to mess myself up over some macaroni. School starts for me today, the summer session....I'm taking virtual classes.. but the site is temporarily down right now, no matter because I still haven't bought my books yet. Otherwise, things are going good, I made myself a weight and measurement chart in microsoft works to record my weekly weight and all. I weighed myself yesterday and I'm down to 172. Woo hoo... How are the rest of you. Shine 185/172/125 |

I was born in Trinidad, raised in NYC from the age of 5 and relocated to NC about 9 1/2 years ago....
My mom was from Barbados so I grew up with a mixture of the WI culture with a NY twist :-) I am so happy to be back on the Atkins program. I am very excited to see my progression by July/Aug this year. I also can't wait to visit my bros. and their wives (who are both very very tiny) in NY to show off the new body.... Sometimes I feel like an Amazon around the "little" women Good luck to us all.... I CAN do ALL things through Christ which strengtheneth me!!! |
