thanks, guys, for all the advice and comforting words...i've been reading up on empty nest syndrome to try to understand it better in order to prepare myself...i never knew what depression felt like until my oldest son started college and that lasted several weeks, and i still had 4 kids at home!...felt like the beginning of the end of something, and i guess in fact, it was...

dw was sad, but not to the extent i was...it was pretty rough...i know intellectually that the kids leaving is not only normal and necessary, but something to be proud of, but i will need to come up with things to replace the biggest part of my life and i'm not sure how to do that...

on an upnote, i weighed in at 230.6 this morning and that is down 1.2 lbs. from 12 days ago and there are still two days til official weigh-in...i want to get to the 220s by then so i will try to eat light the next couple of days...i think i'm losing about 3/4 lb. per week, and i've learned that anything from 1/2 lb. per week is the best pace for me...

i think those gadgets sound so cool...wanna watch you guys use them for awhile before getting one...

worked this morning, and am about to run to the gym, then back to the building to get a few more things done...

vicki, you are doing awesome - it's so good to see you in such a positive place!

marilee, congrats on 35 years - i don't know why that came as a surprise to me...i didn't know you had even been in az that long!...i've worked for the same company for over 25 years - through a lot of changes - 16 years while someone else owned it and now 9 years owning it myself...

abs, i LOVE chicken salad - one of my favorites...are you almost done readying the house for the kids?

tammy, thanks so much for sharing your experience with me...it definitely helps to hear that you not only made it through, but are thriving... :-)

have a great day, blitzers!

I went from 260.4 (could have been more but that was the weight I was when I last weighed before starting on the 28th. I don't remember how far back it was, maybe a couple of weeks.) Today 252.2, so down 8.2 lbs.

Measurements are weird. Overall, I lost 4.5". But, who knows if I pulled the tape measure tight enough or loose enough and the same as I did last week. Some areas stayed the same, some got smaller and some got bigger <shrug>. Oh well. I don't think I will measure again until the end of June when I redo pics. I will continue weekly weights though.

I did a killer Leslie Sansone DVD mile walk this morning, man was I dripping. That calculated to be about 7000 steps too.

It is still cool in the morning here at least for the time being.

Ok, Marilee, let's walk through posting pictures.

The photo has to be in your computer to start.

Go to "Go Advance" to post.

Go to the bottom of that screen and hit "Manage Attachments"
The words "choose file" should show up. Click on the "choose file" and then look through your pictures until you find the one you want to post. Click on it to "open" it. The jpg. number should show up on the small screen.

Then click on the word "upload" and that should save the picture to your post.

After you write your post and then click on " submit your post" the photo should show up at the bottom of your post.

Good luck!

I don't know what it did because I didn't get "choose file" but it worked. At least now when you click on the picture it gets bigger. Thanks, Abi!

Tony, I agree that it is scary that I am the technical person here. lol Now that my friend at work has quit it seems they will be having me do her job setting up and running the label machine plus still do some of the stuff I have been doing right along. If you could see some of the cheat notes I have to get my mind around whether something needs to get adjusted up or down or back or forth to get these tiny little labels to line up in the centers you would have a good laugh. Well, whatever works I guess.

Marilee, so glad my instructions worked for you. Love the photo! I can see the others' glass awards. Now you need to get a close up of yours and post it!

Tammy, what a wonderful way to spend your DD's birthday! Lots of great exercise too!

Tuna salad with pork skins today for lunch.

Have a great day Blitzers!

Abs, I have always struggled with posting pics too, thanks for the directions. Now I need to save them somewhere so I can remember how to do it since I don't post pics too often.

Tony, lobster topped haddock sounds yummy. Being on the coast, you probably have much fresher seafood than we do in the Midwest.

Tammy, I would love to have the opportunity to hike the coast. How pretty.

Marilee, I am glad I am not the only one who doesn't get the hang of posting pics here.

I really like this activity tracker. It has helped to keep me motivated and to increase my cardio. I wasn't doing cardio very frequently before.

I scored a pretty good deal. I got a combo elliptical recumbent trainer off of a site that has a man's name in it for half of what they sell for. The couple only had it a year and was barely used. They needed to get rid of it to make room in their small apt. for baby stuff.

I had an elliptical before but sold it about 6 months ago, I don't know why LOL. But, it clunked when I used it anyways. This one is a much better model. I have a good recumbent bike I bought about 10 years ago when I had a foot injury, that I am going to give to some friends. I have used it off and on. Since this new trainer is a combo I will save on room. When my feet or knee acts up I still have an option.

Here's the award and I got a "woo hoo" card. Seemed fitting... I also received a VERY nice check.

Tony, I've been in Phoenix since 1981. I joined the company in 1979 when they were located in Bellingham, WA.

Good morning!

Tony, DD is 20 now. Hard to believe because it seems like just yesterday I was in labor for 21 hours with her!! She's always been an old soul and far advanced for her age......she was saying yesterday that she's SO HAPPY to finally officially no longer be a teenager, and I told her that she hasn't been a teenager since she was 12!! It's so true too.....she graduated High School (with honors) 2 years early, she was the youngest licensed esthetician in the history of the state of Arizona, and she was married 5 weeks ago.....she's done more in her 20 years than some people I've known do in a lifetime!!

Abi, they're not cheat notes if they help you get it done!! I always get nervous when I'm training people and they DON'T take time to take notes!!

Vicki, that is so awesome about the new equipment, I'm sure you'll get a lot of great use out of it!!

Marilee, that award is AWESOME.....and the check is even nicer! You completely deserve it too.....rarely is that sort of consistency or dedication seen anymore!!

Well, yesterday was wonderful! It was great fun, and incredibly active....but foodwise not so good! The calories weren't horrible because I split a dinner entrée with DH at Pei Wei.....but the scale hates me this morning and I knocked myself out of ketosis. I will be focusing on upping my fat content today, may even do a fat fast.....and will drink LOTS of water and hike again this evening to speed up getting back into ketosis. Here's a pic we took yesterday mid-way through the hike....

Tammy, glad you had fun yesterday. I bet most of the food resulted in water weight and you'll get it off quickly.

Ok, so now I'm having fun with pictures. Here are two of the infamous patio. The bushes without flowers had just been trimmed and all of the pretty yellow bells were cut off. I'll send more when they are blooming.

Just lost my post ugh!!

Marilee, your patio is just like I imagined it. So lovely and to see that view from inside the house is so serene.

Your award is beautiful!

Tony, Amadora just gets cuter if that is possible. Keep the photos coming.

Tammy, another nice photo of your lovely family. I know you will be back in ketosis in a couple of days.

Vicki, glad my notes on posting photos was a help. When you get your training machine you need to take a picture and post it for us.

tuna salad and pork skins today. Have a wonderful Friday Blitzers!

What, an Arizona blitz? I am in. As long as I have enough notice to fit it into budget LOL.

Marilee, mom asked if you sent me the patio pics or the one of the award and I said no. Now I can see them here. Very nice.

You guys are putting me to shame for not posting pics ha, ha. Tell you what, since the ugly bushes were removed (I should have take a pic of those. Maybe I can find a before pic somewhere like the assessors website or something. We talked this morning about where we wanted to spend the house fund $$ this year. Originally it was to paint the house, but now that the ugly bushes are gone, we want to landscape a bit.

I drew up a plan and we are going to go looking this weekend. The thing is, I know what bushes and plantings I want but I don't know what they are called and I got ideas from driving around looking at people's places. I used to have a catalog but tossed it a ways back. I can try looking on the internet but that is so daunting. Oh well.

Regardless, I will take a pic of the bare "canvas" and take an after pic then post them. That way I can get practice of posting pics.

Yesterday I spent hours categorizing the pics on the computer. They can go into more specialized folders but for now, I will call it good. I also need to label many of them. My 14 year old got a kick out of looking at the ones in his folder. He even said "this is fun". Funny thing is, I told him with his older brothers we would sit down on the couch with a photo album and look through old pics . . . my how times have changed.

Well, off to research plant and bush types and work some more on my new class material. Ta ta for now.

Thanks for the compliments on the patio.

Tony, I live in that comfy chair. I think I told you all that I sleep sitting up and that is my "bed". There is an ottoman that came with it so I am very comfy.

Great picture of Amadora.

I'm up for an Arizona Blitz party, but don't come now - 111 today and over 108 all next week.

Good morning all, Happy Friday!!!

Marilee, LOVE the patio.....Very pretty and just as I imagined it would be!!

Tony, that pic of Amadora is to cute....she has a definite "all knowing" look in those eyes....she is most assuredly grandpa's girl!!

Abi, it's so freaking hard to get back into ketosis......you'd think I'd remember this!!

Vicki, I do miss having a yard to play with and plant flowers, etc. We used to have a HUGE yard in Colorado and we were always working in it, I had incredibly flower gardens and DH built an awesome deck....it was a lot of work, but we sure did enjoy it!

Well, off to work today....TGIF, I am looking forward to the weekend! No big plans, but we have new trails we want to explore so we plan on getting some good hikes in....have fun everyone!!

Tammy, if you had the deck and yard I bet you would not be doing the hiking!
Tell me about getting back into ketosis, I am still not back and it's my own fault.

Marilee, are your flowering bushes on your patio rhododendron? Love the hot pink!

Tony, aren't all your days long? I've never known anyone who could pack as much into a day or week as you, except maybe my sister in law. lol

Well I am heading out to stack some wood. DH bough 3 cords last month that for the most part are still sitting in a pile. I am going to start doing a little every weekend and maybe it won't seem like such an impossible project for him and he will do some each day. This is a great day to start as it is still nice and cool this morning at 6am - 54 degrees.

will check back later. Have another funeral to go to at 1. Another friend of Mom's who was also 90. A wonderful man with a great sense of humor. His sweet wife told me last night that they have 70 in their extended family now.

Have a great day Blitzers!

Abi, I may be needing wood since we are thinking of building a fire pit. My 14 yr old, the social butterfly, has already been to two "bon-fires" since school was out. I figured if we built a fire pit they could be here. That way I can scope out his friends and friends who are girls LOL. "If you build it, they will come" LOL

DH and I are going landscaping shopping. I have an idea of what I want to plant and how in the area where the ugly bushes came out. Except, I don't know the name of half of the stuff. I thought of taking pics so when I went, the person helping would be able to identify. I tried scoping the internet out but without success. I even tried a shrub/plant identifier.

I bought a big bag, 8 cups worth, of mung bean sprouts at an Asian grocery store and was in the mood for egg foo yung. But, with that amount and the fact that they don't last long, I decided to concoct a casserole. It is called Shrimp Egg Foo Yung casserole LOL. I will let you know how it turns out. It is still in the oven.

Well, off to check on it. I will report back later.

wow, vicki, that was a fast review!...haha...good luck with your plants...i agree with the "if you build it, they will come theorty"...that's why we have a game room with a pool table in the basement and a pool in the backyard...and it works

amadora was here when i got home from my mediation workshops yesterday and we took her swimming for the first time...dw bought her a swimmy-float thing that she sits in and is half submerged, so she was kicking her feet all around and we got a whirlpool going so she was floating around the perimeter of the pool...she LOVED IT!

the workshops were informative but very long...lasted almost 9 hours...

abs, i guess my days are generally long, but they don't all feel that way - yesterday DID...gonna head over to see my niece play in a lacrosse tournament today...i miss her and my sister...

abi, go easy on the wood stacking...and smile while you do it, maybe dh will think it looks like fun...hahaha...how's he feeling these days?

marilee, i would sleep in that chair too!...i do plan on meeting all of you one day...what's up for the weekend?

tammy, pretty soon you'll be in shape to climb a small mountain!...are the kids visiting this weekend?

ok, i will check in later...love you guys!

Abi, the plants on the wall are bougainvillea and the purple one is a purple rubella. The yellow bells in the corner are just starting to bloom from the recent trim. I should be able to send pictures of them I a couple of weeks. They are pretty.

I need to run. I'll post more later.

nice day today...very relaxing - went to see my niece play lacrosse and right after we left the field, emmy texted me and asked if we were free, so i called her and she wanted to know if we wanted to babysit while she and sal went a graduation party...what do you think we said???...

so they came over a little after 4 and we have already gone swimming...she's about to take a little nap and then the three of us will go out for ice cream...she can have a few licks of ours...haha

hope y'all are having a great saturday!

When I visited Marilee a few years ago in March, we went to Sedona, beautiful. She has a nice place. The kitchen is a bit small for my standards, very little counter space. But for one person, it's seems to work.

I bet it was just a delight to see Amadora enjoying the swimming floaty too. We have a pool table in the basement that came with the house. The kids play occasionally.

We didn't get to the garden center this afternoon, it was pouring. It is absolutely gorgeous now though. Sun is out and it is 70 with a slight breeze.

Marilee, looking forward to seeing the yellow bells when they bloom in a couple of weeks. I am always taking pictures of any flowers that actually bloom around our house every year. We don't have many, our soil is so poor and I am not a good gardener. When they actually bloom I think, well you are a brave little soul. lol

Vicki, glad the weather cleared for you finally yesterday. Too bad you didn't get to the garden center yet.

Tony, there is nothing cuter than a baby getting in the water in a floatie for the first time and watching those little pudgy legs just kicking away. I bet she loved the ice cream!

We cooked out chicken yesterday and may do steaks today.

I think there will be a larger group at the Backside today. Our niece's in laws are in town and may join us.

Have a great Sunday all! I'll check back later.

so abs, how many made it to the backside?...how big is that place?...you're right about the cuteness of those chubby legs!

youngest son was working today so dw and i hadn't heard from the other kids so we took an hour long drive to go to a big flea market...well, we were there about 15 minutes when emmy texts us and asks if we are enjoying the sunshine and tells us she and amadora are about to jump in our pool...haha, so guess what?...we got back in the truck and drove an hour home...

our oldest boy met her at home but had to leave about 15 minutes after we arrived as his gf had a concert...she plays violin in the symphony...the rest of the day was a lot of fun with that cutie pie baby...all she does is smile and play...

i grilled veggies and steak tips that i got from the market - they were expensive but tough and i didn't overcook them...i think i will make stew out of the leftovers tomorrow...

we got to see amadora fri, sat and sun...now we're spoiled again! :-)

busy week ahead...i have a planning board meeting tomorrow to get a sign approved for the cycle girls and lots more to do at the building and with mediations.

how was everyone else's weekend?

What a great weekend you and your family had Tony! Yup, you are definitely spoiled! Too bad about the steak tips but good your can make some lemonade out of those lemons. lol

There were 8 of us at the Backside and we were fortunated to get the only table that can sit that many. The Backside reminds me of someones back porch that has been windowed in. It has two walls of just windows with booths all around. In the middle are the one long table and maybe two tables for two. I think there are around 7 or 8 booths. We had a great time and niece's father in law had sneakily paid the check. So that was nice. We told him not to do that again. He laughed and said it was pay back because his son and our niece had done that to him the day before. They had come from Maine for the parade and festivities of the "Strolling of the Heifers" lol - only in Vermont!

Tuna salad, pork skins, and left over steak today.

Have a great day Blitzers! Tammy, hope your Monday is not too stressful and same to you Marilee! We know Vicki is stress free on her long summer vacation!

gonna hit the gym this morning before it gets crazy...my brother is bringing my niece up from RI to unh for overnight orientation today and we plan to get together at some point, either today or tomorrow...

had two off-days this weekend but didn't go crazy...forgot to weigh on friday before the workshops so i will go with the 230.6 i weighed in at on wednesday...planning a light and active week...have to have bloodwork next week and see the doc the following week as part of my med check...

Good morning all, Happy Monday!!

Abi, you're so correct....if we still had the deck and the back yard to putz around in we probably would not be hiking as much.

Marilee, Bougainvillea has always been one of my favorites....it grows by the boat loads here as well, and it blooms pretty much all year round!

Vicki, We had a pool table for a while too when the kids were younger.....my daughter used to be quite the little pool shark! Our house was always the house the kids liked to hang out at.....we had many "adopted" children in those days!

Tony, what a fun weekend you had.....babies love water for sure....at least mine always did!! How was the ice cream? You know, it's funny....If there's ice cream in the freezer I can ignore it with no problem....but if someone asks to go to Coldstone......well then I'm in trouble because that's nearly impossible to resist!!

Well, I am back in ketosis.....on the lighter end of the stick, but still in ketosis.....so I expect the scale yo-yo to level out. I'm SOOOOO close to being under 200 and my body seems to be very stubborn about letting go. That's ok....My determination to get below 200 is even MORE stubborn!

We had a terrific weekend here, continued with our hiking both days.....yesterday we tried a new trail....SUPER STEEP.....but it led right down to the ocean to a beautiful hidden sandy beach.....it was really fabulous! We spent about an hour playing in the water then hiked back up and went home exhausted....it was great!!

Well it's Monday and I'm shot handed today, so it's going to be super busy.....I'd better get to it, Have a great day everyone!!
