Just Meat

I am eating just meat, chicken, or tuna with a little mayo for awhile to try to get back to the simple basics. In 2008 I lost 20 pounds in a few months by eating just meat. I would like to lose 5 pounds by Easter. Would anyone like to join me?

BecBelle 03-26-2014 03:47 PM

I have been eating straight meat for the past 9 days. My exceptions are mayo, butter, and 3 cherry peppers a day. I take cocoanut oil, and evoo as supplements. I feel terrific and I've lost 9lbs.(some of it was definitely water) I drink coffee and chai tea.

Mr_Geiri 03-26-2014 06:03 PM

Only solid food I have these days is also meat. It quickly broke my stall and I'm losing again.

I have lots of fatty sauce with it. Usually with mayo or butter as main ingredient (sometimes partly cheese).

I don't need to count the carbs because I know there is no way for it to go over 20 a day. It's probably under 10 most days.

I will try this. I guess it is simple and easy. I just get constipated when I only eat meat though.

Peace 03-26-2014 09:58 PM

do you overeat on protein when you do this plan? I guess that would be another concern for me.

just wondering--

Peace 03-26-2014 10:11 PM

I am really considering this for about a week. How often do you eat?

Peace 03-26-2014 10:14 PM

One of the best things I experienced on vacation is when I just ate lettuce and grilled chicken for lunch and dinner. It was soooo nice to not even think about what to eat, when to eat or food in general. I want that back.

I take olive oil for this reason, 2tbs in shot glass every day.:)

I eat usually 3 meals a day. Bacon and eggs for brek with Tbone for lunch and mayo and tuna for a snack an small round steak for supper.

Abigale 03-27-2014 01:13 AM

Good morning everyone!

I usually eat 3 meals a day of 80% lean and 20% fat ground beef. If I want a snack I eat some pork skins. I will be doing the same today.

Tomorrow I will eat tuna with mayo for the day.

I drink black coffee during the day and my first cup has a tablespoon of coconut oil in it.

I am down one pound after day one!

Drago 03-27-2014 04:28 AM

Fat intake is important. Make sure the meat you're eating is high fat; pork belly & sausage, rib eye, skirt steak, lamb, etc. Tuna and chicken breast, although good for protein doesn't contain enough fat. Supplement your meat only days with fat bombs. Drink a couple cups of bullet proof coffee and eat those chocolaty things made with coconut oil and butter. I usually do three days a week like this and my weight loss is consistent. I've lost 36 lbs. in less than 3 months.

BringOnTheLard 03-27-2014 06:23 AM

I've been almost nothing but meat since I started in August, as in I can't handle the carbs that come with veggies if I want to lose weight. My typical day includes 2 roasted chicken thighs with vinegar and a can of sardines right out of the can for my solid foods. Coffee with HWC until about 3pm, then some hot tea with no sweeteners or broth as a snack at night. I do use some supplements when I remember, multi vitamin, D3, C, etc.

I've lost about 55 lbs now. Loss has slowed down the last month, only 3 lbs, but still losing inches and have had a lot of comments recently so I think I'm converting to lean muscle.

I have zero hunger or cravings doing this. However I do schedule a cheat night once a week on Friday's after 5pm. I have carb foods, drinks, dessert and milk. Still avoid grains except for maybe once a month I might choose pasta.

Mr_Geiri 03-27-2014 09:21 AM

I do not get constipation or overeat on proteins as long as I focus on getting enough fat with the meat. Make sure to add fat.

Willgirl 03-27-2014 11:53 AM

I have been reading about flavoured butters for adding to meat. If you google it there are tonnes that have very little by way of carbs...e.g. just adding some spices. I find this is a delicious and decadent way to add fat to meat!

Mr_Geiri 03-27-2014 12:15 PM

I rarely have something other than homemade Béarnaise sauce when I have beef steaks. It's really ideal for LCHF diet. Just be careful those packaged ones usually have flour in them.

Well two good days in a row thanks to all of your support! I am down .6 pounds today. I had ground beef and some pork skins yesterday. Today I have tuna salad packed for lunch. I am starting to lose some of my carb cravings.

I am going to keep track of my daily ups and downs.

Thanks so much for starting this thread, Abigale. I'm very inspired by all of you.

I second Abigale!

I had stalled over the last few days, finally figured out it was the diet green tea I was having, but I'm stalled again after yesterday :dunno: So, after tonight (early birthday dinner) I'm going to switch it up to a protein/fat only for a few days & see if that will jump start the loss again

Also started taking 400mg Magnesium for leg cramps, this helped almost immediately & helps keep me "cleaned out" if ya get my drift! sorry if TMI!

I would like to join you and try this for a couple of weeks. I am a meat lover and probably won't miss to much else. I have been low carbing for a long time, first in 2004 with Atkins 72. I am having a hard time this time around ( lost 30 lbs in the last year. )
Abigail , I do drink black coffee with a small splash of Davinci Caramel Syrup and eat some sf Jello. I will start on monday since that is my wheigh in.
Thanks for starting this thread.

What Drago said! For example, if I roast a whole chicken, I eat the breast dipped in the drippings which is pure liquid fat and the best gravy ever. The thighs and legs are fatty enough on their own, so the drippings really help the chicken breast go down and avoid constipation and gives you more fuel to use. Protein is rotten fuel, you want more fat than protein to keep from feeling ill and tired.

Since I began my low carb journey, I learned to cherish the fat. I seek out fatty cuts of meat, I eat tons of coconut oil and butter, and I save bacon drippings in a jar in the fridge and dip raw vegetables in it for a snack. The people of the Northern Plains knew long ago the value of fat when they made pemmican as did the nomadic Masai tribes in central Africa. The Inuit of Alaska knew too. They fed the meat to the dogs and ate the fat.

Abigale 03-28-2014 02:21 PM

:hiya: Lola and Sara!

Mr_Geiri 03-28-2014 02:22 PM

They fed the lean meat to the dogs. They ate fatty meat and stored fat :)

Abigale 03-28-2014 02:29 PM

Geiri, love your kitty profile picture. Is that your cat? What is its name?

Mr_Geiri 03-28-2014 02:32 PM

Yes that's my cat. His name is Moli :)

Abigale 03-28-2014 02:37 PM

Sweet! He looks so intelligent!

Abigale 03-29-2014 02:13 AM

Happy Saturday gang!

I enjoyed the tuna salad yesterday for a change but back to ground beef today. I plan to drink more water today besides my black coffee. Am down .2 pounds. Not much but moving in the right direction!

I became interested in 2008 of an all meat diet after reading about Vilhjalmur Stefansson. He was a Canadian explorer and wrote "Not by Bread Alone" and "The Fat of the Land".

To prove his findings that some societies were healthy on an all meat, its entrails and fish diet he agreed to eat this way himself for a year being monitored at Bellvue Hospital in New York City. He ate around 25% protein with 75 to 85% fat. When the study tried to feed him just lean meat it made him sick. He made sure to include different parts of the animal including the brain, liver, and kidneys.

Mr_Geiri 03-29-2014 12:01 PM

I just heard about him recently (he's of Icelandic origin). Really fascinating stuff!

Abigale 03-29-2014 12:13 PM

I agree it is very fascinating!
