Abigale - have you read the interview on the Mercola site with Hyman talking about how rats that area already addicted to heroine/cocaine always go to the sugar instead of the drug? Wow...

There’s a whole questionnaire in my book the 10-Day Detox Diet, which goes through exactly how you diagnose it. A lot of this has come from Kelly Brownell, who’s a professor (he was at Yale; now he’s at Duke) and who has written a lot about food addiction. He has validated food addiction scales. But it’s very much like alcohol addiction or heroin addiction. In fact, when they looked at brain chemistry, they found that the addiction in the brain was like heroin or cocaine.

When they did animal studies, they found that the rats would seek sugar far more than cocaine. If they’re already addicted to cocaine, they’d go after the sugar. They worked 8 times harder to get the sugar than cocaine. Even if they were already addicted to cocaine, they would go for the sugar. It’s that powerful. Even when they were shocking them with electric shocks, they’d keep eating the sugar. That’s what happens to humans. We keep eating the junk even if those are making us fat and sick, affecting the quality of our life, giving us diabetes, and making us feel awful. We keep eating it because it’s a biological addiction.

Wow Julie, that information is pretty shocking. I can't imagine rats addicted to cocaine going for the sugar. I do think i have been able to stay in ketosis for this long because i am not trying to make the low carb sub sweets. I will still find myself looking at the recipes and then just shake my head and say "what in heck are you thinking!' I always fall back into eating sweets if I start to make and eat the low carb ones. I definitely have an addiction.

I haven't packed my lunch yet so don't know what I will be bringing to work. I may take out a frozen burger to fry. Will bring a couple of oopsie buns and low carb catsup to go with it.

Have a great day gang!

Julie, is Grain Brain the book you are quoting Dr. Perlmutter from. I have been reading good reviews about it.

I made my oopsies a little different today. Cooked them at 350 for 10 minutes then flipped them for 10 more. Put one teaspoon of coconut flour in the yolk and mayo mixture to see if I can get a more bread like texture. Time will tell.

Still in ketosis but scale not moving. I think my muffin top is going down though.

Have a great day gang!

Our plant will be taking a bus to the grand opening of our first satellite store this morning. We will be eating at the food court so I plan on getting something like a bacon cheeseburger and remove the bun.

Have a great day!

Well, people are saying they don't recognize them so I will tell you. It is Kathie Lee and Frank Gifford. The young man to the left is our company owner and the the two young ladies to the right are his sister and step mother. Kathie Lee loves our candles and she and Frank are friends of the owner and his Dad and family. It was a neat surprise.

I ended up having a philly cheese steak with lettuce, bacon and tomato in a bowl at the food court at the mall. No dressing. It was delicious. No loss this week, acutually up .2 from last Saturday but I am still in ketosis. So I shall keep on keeping on!

Have as great day gang!

Short story to tell. Afew weeks ago my niece from Cleveland and her boyfriend from Chicago were here visiting my brother and sister in law. They have dated for about a year and when we all met him last winter we all just loved him. I told everyone if this romance did not work out we should adopt him. Well he called my brother earlier in the week from Chicago and asked if they were busy last night. He flew in without my niece knowing it to ask for hand in marriage. Then he and nieces' brother and brother in law went out to local pub and proceeded to send texts and photos of the pub to my niece who was the charge nurse last night at the hospital where she works. She thought it was a joke and the photos were from last month when they were both here. He really pulled a good one on her. We are glad we aren't going to have to resort to adopting him.

Good morning gang!

We cooked out ribeyes last night and they were delicious. DH never finishes his so am taking leftovers to work.

I am still in ketosis and even though the scale is not moving I really do think my roll around the waist is receding. I hate that roll! Even at my lowest weight ever I still had some. I am determined to see if staying in ketosis will finally get rid of it!

Have a great day!

Julie, I have never tried almond milk but that iced coffee does sound good!

Bringing oopsie buns for snack today. Once a month the company buys us pizza to celebrate the birthdays for the month. I will have the tops off one slice of meat lovers and one slice of cheese and mushroom. It is a nice treat. I will try not to look at the carby stuff they bring in too.

Have a great day gang!

I'm actually starting back this week after falling off the wagon so to speak so Abigale might be able to tell you because she is a dye-hard at this.
I also do Atkins 72 induction, which allows for 2 cups of lettuce/day
but I do not do this all the time especially when I am trying to get into ketosis which is what I am doing right now...

cindysandia

I had a real good day yesterday. I had some carb flu later at night but it was before bed and it didn't really bother me. I did take some water which helped.
The iced coffee filled me up too!!

Oh--also I am not going to weight myself until before/after FL break on 8/22 and 8/30.
This is really the WOE for me so do I really need to weight everyday?
It just stresses me with the fluctuations...
Abigale you weight once a week?

Have a great day!

Hi Cynthia! Welcome to the Just Meat group. Yes is does work. I lost 30 pounds back in 2008 eating mainly ground beef. I do recommend vitamins and especially vitamin D3.

Just meat includes beef, chicken, pork, turkey, ham, eggs, and a little cheese. Keeping it simple you can lose pretty well.

Dr. Blake Donaldson wrote a book in the 1960's called Strong Medicine. He advocated an all meat diet. If you google Dr. Donaldson's Eskimo-Style Diet there is a review of his book.

Here is a quote from the article. "There are probably only two biologically perfect foods - fresh fat meat (i.e. meat with fat on it) and water". He considered the role of amino acids to be vital for the repair of damaged cells, and stated many times that fresh fat meat contains all 10 essential amino acids, as well as several non-essential ones."

Personally I am eating some vegetables right now because we have a garden but once that goes by I will be back to just meat. I have been in ketosis for quite awhile so even though I have not lost much I am keeping my carbs low enough to be using my fat stores for energy.

Make sure you are not eating lean meat but fatty meat, butter, mayonaise, olive oil and coconut oil.

Best wishes!
