They still haven't released him from the hospital. His temp is back up and is bp is dangerously low. I am pretty scared and am hoping that the iv antibiotics start working soon! You hear about these drug resistant bugs these days and pray that the med kills the bacteria eventually.

Between DH being sick and my recent realization that I am running some scary high blood glucose readings I have become scared straight
Seriously carbs are poison regardless of whether or not they make me gain weight or not....ironically I haven't gained but my bg tells the real story.

How are things with you Terri?

Hey Jeanie,
I kind of got knocked of my rocker yesterday with a work Seminar and DH putting a deposit down on a puppy So I ate crap all day for no reason. The way I feel I think I'll skip weighing in this week. I'm back on IE today trying to decide on sticking with that, going to No S, or just going back to low carb. Iím super busy at work and with the puppy coming in 16 days I need something that is easy enough to stick to or Iím going to blow up like a balloon. So I feel a bit out of control today.

Howís DH? Is he home yet?

Aww a puppy, good walking exercise though right? I don't know sometimes low carb seems the easiest, yet at other times it seems like a total pain. I don't want to cook eggs or fry a steak dammit, I want to grab some bread make a sandwich and have some pretzels!! No mess easy peasy

I have no option though my bg numbers are too high, at 52 with a family hisory ot type 2 I am playing with fire. Most of my younger siblings already have type 2 due to their diet so I have no choice. I want to be strict right now and get in control of the carbs by eating very low carb and then use my bg meter to see what I can add safely.

DH is home now, he is still weak and I worry about him

I know what you mean. DH is out of town. I got a mini pot pie for dinner and light salami and light bread to make a sandwich with mustard for lunch. I don't need to eat "diet" food on IE but I'm finding if I actually only eat to satisfaction, these light versions, that I like, fit the bill. It's like the WW days without figuring out what I could still have for two points I'm thinking for health I'm going to probably go back to low carb. I just know it's a healthier choice. And for the most part, since I'm been doing it so long, it is easy for me. But today easy peasy won.

Glad DH is home. At least he is under your care.

No, going to visit this weekend and pick him up next.

I'm still doing IE. So far I've stayed the same. If I can manage to keep that up for a while i'll be happy.

How is it going Terri? I am doing pretty well, Dr. started me on metformin for high blood sugar. It has been a real wake up call for me and have since been on plan faithfully. I eat low carb but allow almonds and an occasional splurge like tator tots with my bunless burger.

Hey Jeanie Girl Good to see you! Sounds like the metformin was just what you needed. So glad you're feeling better!!

I'm still doing IE and feeling pretty good about it. I haven't lost much, but have maintained in the low end of my window. Last Saturday I even glimpsed 139.9 for the first time in a year. Right now, with the puppy, it would be hard to really do much else. Even though I'm not losing the last 15, at least I'm not gaining 15 more.

Thatís awesome Jeanie!! So are you still following a basic low carb approach? Do you think the metformin is making it easier to stick too?

I need to get my Mo Jo back. This week was my birthday and Iíve had too many splurges. Iím starting to feel it in my clothes. DH is out of town this week so that should make it a little easier. I also want to get my strength routines back going. Since Iíve had the pup my routines have gone out the window.

I am doing basic low carb but allow almonds most days, I find that they really fill me up and provide that salty crunch I so often miss. I have been walking and doing resistance training as well, that helps keep me on track and allows me to eat a tad more, so I don't feel as hungry or deprived. I can't really say the metformin does anything magical, but the thought of becoming a full fledged type 2 diabetic certainly is helping to keep me in line. I have watched too many family members ignore the pre-diabetes stage and then progress onto eventually needing to inject insulin... I don't want to go there!

Yeah, seeing my cholesterol go up a few years ago got me in line. I need to refocus on that and use it again.

Well here I am feeling mentally and physically exhausted from my crappy eating over the last few months. Every morning I vow to make a clean start and fail miserably by evening. I saw 153.8 this morning! I truly feel sick

Well Hey Pal Sorry you're feeling crappy tonight!

I've had a challenging couple months. I've done a couple Fat Fasts to keep it to a dull roar, but then a crazy weekend here, car shopping week there, etc has thrown a wrench in things. Today I'm dealing with a stinky fridge due to bad fish. It wasn't in the fridge for more than half a day before I decided I wasn't interested. I wrapped it in plastic and put it in the freezer to toss it on trash night. By that night it had destroyed the fridge with smell I've cleaned the whole thing top to bottom with vinegar water, used baking soda, coffee grounds, charcoal and just cleaned it again tonight with bleach and tossed the last of the little bit of food I tried to salvage. I've been working on it for a week and a half. So consequently I have not been able to plan decent meals. If I succeed with the fridge I'll be re-stocking with healthy low carb food. If not I'll probably have another weekend of bad eating until I can get a new one.

What's your plan at this point?

What an ordeal with the fridge Terri! I shopped tonight after work and purchased rib-eyes, shrimp, and chicken thighs in hopes of getting back to low carb. Honestly though I am not all that excited at the prospect. I have to do something I just feel so miserable.

Iím supposed to get back on track this weekend too and I canít say I have a lot of motivation either. But if I donít do it now Iím be lost come the holidays and I donít even want to think what that will mean at the beginning of the year. Maybe we can motivate each other. For me I need some new recipes. DH heard this on the radio this morning Iím going to try this weekend.

Butter beef for slow cooker......about 8 hours on low....
Original recipe makes 8 servings
3 pounds cubed beef stew meat
1/2 cup butter
1 (1 ounce) envelope dry onion soup mix
Served over hot noodles.....or not...
Notes from Marshall: I've made this twice now. The first time I followed the recipe to the letter and found it decent but knew the recipe had potential with a little tweaking.
The second time, I did the following things to snaz it up: seasoned the beef with kosher salt, fresh cracked pepper, and garlic powder, browned the beef before adding it to the slow cooker, sauted 2 cups sliced mixed mushrooms and 1 onion sliced in the beef drippings before adding them to the slow cooker, 1/2 cup of red wine and added that also to the slow cooker, used 1/2 unsalted and 1/2 salted butter and then used low-salt soup mix to avoid all the saltiness.

Recipe sounds delicious let me know if you try it. I hate to cook and eat really boring perhaps that is why I never stay low carb for long?? Yes lets motivate each other! I feel so bad physically and mentally and I know it is a direct result of my poor diet. The lady I babysit for and her husband both just lost close to 10 lbs using the 21 day fix program. I thought about maybe trying it but she was kinda of grumpy on the program though!

I don't know much about the 21 day fix. A couple friends tried it without startling results. Apparently the containers are very small. One friend liked the "no thought, just fill them and goĒ another friend thought it was "a hassle, and way too little food". I think it's pretty low fat and that makes me grumpy.

Iím thinking Iím just going to go Protein Power for a while. Eat whatever just keep the carbs below 30 and spread out throughout the day. I can have a glass of wine if I want to and if I want a bite of something higher carb I just count it and move on. That way I donít feel like Iíve blown it and might as well just go overboard. I can usually find something yummy that works anywhere, steak & salad, even skinless KFC or a bunless burger. Rotisserie chicken or Tri-Tip with a bag of salad from the grocery makes a quick and easy dinner. Iím not going to worry about macros for the most part, just try a more free and easy approach so as hopefully not to burn out. Weíll see if I get anywhere if I stay consistent. I may try another FF mid November depending on how things go. Iím still employing the IE concepts of not eating if Iím not hungry and stopping when Iíve had enough.

I tried the recipe. It was yummy, but could have been cooked a lot less. I have a couple servings left over for lunches; I may add some sour cream for a stroganoff flair. I have left over bacon from breakfast this morning and will probably have boiled eggs and bacon for the first few breakfasts. Dinners will probably be basic meat (steak, low carb sausages, chicken thighs, etc) with veggies or salad.

Hi Terri
Things have been crazy my father in law passed away and things have been hectic. The burial is today. I was doing well and then started eating crap due to all the hubub and failure to plan. Hopefully tomorrow I will be ready to focus and things will settle down a bit. Hope you are doing well. You're plan is a very smart one indeed!

Sorry Pal that's a rough one.

I basically just reverted to IE for the time being. I kept overeating legal stuff while just wanting illegal stuff. I tried getting back into my Low Carb books and they kept telling me how to survive living in the real world on a low carb life style (packing food, picking off breading, ordering special, etc.). So I decided to try living in the real world by saying ďyes pleaseĒ and ďthank you Iíve had enoughĒ. When I want more then I need or to eat stuff when Iím not actually hungry I just tell myself thatís the tradeoff for being able to eat whatever I want when I am hungry. Itís not a fast losing strategy, but neither is it a fast gainer. I am naturally focused on more whole foods and less frankenfoods whenever possible but Iím sick and tired of saying I canít have that or feeling guilty. I still do well with short term Fat Fasts and Iíll probably will continue those occasionally to chip away a couple pounds here and there, but then Iím going right back to IE instead of trying to revert to low carb when Iím done. So thatís my latest plan.

I hear you on eating more of the legal stuff to try and fend off eating what I really want. Honestly, I haven't found a plan that works long term. My one and only 6 month stint of low carb years ago seems to have eluded me.

I am very depressed right now we just found out my SIL has MS. She waited until my father in law passed to tell us because she didn't want him to know and we were going through a rough time when she was diagnosed, so she didn't tell us either. I feel like the walls are closing in on us and worry about my husband getting ms as well. His mom, uncle and now his sister have all gotten MS which makes DH very vulnerable. I also hope that our children never have to face the possibility of facing this disease in the future.

Well you've had quite a year Pal So Sorry!

The only advice I can give you is to live every day to the fullest. You don't know if he'll get it. But if he does, don't waste a moment. And if he doesnít, what a wonderful way to live!
