What does your son want to do for work MK??

My son works but only makes around 12.60 an hour. It's a start and he doesn't have a degree. He is taking Nutrition se can get his restaurant management certificate. His fiancé has a degree and makes less then him.

I just ate ice cream. Not a lot but unnecessary calories. I just wanted something sweet and cold after the chili I made.

Chili was made with stew beef in crock. It was OK.

Hate when DH is away.

MK, I hope things start looking up for you. The surgery is going to be hard for sure.

I am thinking about you always.
Hard with the kids too.
DD's place in Milwaukee isn't rented yet. She texted me late last night and said they can't afford rent in both MKE and FL. Ugh.
Do we ever have any stress free time?

My DS29 trying to rent a townhouse. I refuse to co-sign. They both have credit issues. They can stay where they are but don't want to. When they move I can get there stuff out if my basement.

Exercises done.

Now need to get ready for work.

Omelet for breakfast.

Burger and veggies for lunch

Little oranges for snack or dessert..

Will pack a few pieces of string cheese too. Maybe a protein shake just in case I don't get a break and need fast calories.

around 10 stays till my little vacation to La Jolla.

Hi!

Cindy - no, I guess not! I would kill for a stress-free week!
Have they advertised on Craig's List? That's how DD got her sublet.
When is the lease up?

Thanks for the prayers.

I'm so cold and just staying warm is no longer an option. Trying not to get frostbite on dog walks or just getting to the car is the best I can hope for . . . .

I was going to run errands this afternoon, but I'm tired and I'm in.

DH was supposed to start chemo today, but it's been postponed until next week.

Again. Just tired.

Debbie - now I want ice cream! I just found dairy free gelato! It's really good. Caramel and sea salt. He wants to work in a hospital in the neuroscience dept. He likes doing testing with Alzheimer and stroke patients.
Right now his degree is totally useless and has just left him with loan debt.

MK, your son needs graduate school. Hospitals really don't have people other then doctors, nurses, OT, PT Speech. Sounds like he needs Masters and PHD.

Sons fiancé has a family studies degree. Works at special Ed school as aid. Makes very little. Has second part time job where she will make even less and it is weekend relief so not something she can count on.

I say take any job you can get. For example we are always hiring people to register patients. Many of these people also are in school. Not high paying but is work with benefits.

What was his degree in? Even substitute teaching an option with a 4 year degree.

Thanks Debbie. He works in registration of the Neuroscience Dept now. It's a job only requires a HS diploma. I'm sure he can't take on more debt to get a grad degree right now. He applied for jobs working with the computer system that his hospital has now, for a hospital in NOLA. That's where he got a 2nd interview and then didn't hear from them again. When he called they just said that all positions had been filled.

I mentioned about substitute teaching since he has a degree and he could coach swimming or soccer. He won't get there until sometime in April, so he'll need to find something for the summer . . . .

He's also my ADD kid - not sure he could do a master's or PHD program.

Gotcha MK. I have two ADD kids.
That is hard. My youngest is pretty severely impacted with ADD and LDs. He is working for a company my husband used to work for. He sent an email to a friend who is a district manager. At the time they didn't have part time work and he was in school. In May he was hired. He just got a promotion but doesn't make a lot. We still feel at 22 it is a start and with this company we know in time he can get more promotions. The man he contacted used to work under my husband 20 years ago. My sons current manager did too. He also was at a much lower position under my husband. The second man wasn't even there when DS got the job. Back a few years ago he was my middle sons manager at his job.

My middle son works for the same company in a different division. He has recently been promoted too. He doesn't make much either but similar to teacher son.

Second son also has ADD and LDs. He has a two year degree as a chef. He is now doing more food management in two nursing homes.

I am glad they are both in this business because my husband was in it many years. They had some contacts. They got hired after interviews and all but just knowing people helps.

Where we live a one bedroom apartment is around -1400 a month. Hard to do making 10-12 dollars an hour. My youngest was making around 10.60 an hour till he got promoted and almost $2 an hour raise. Now he does ordering, stocking and not just a cashier and Barrista at the Starbucks like place in the government building he works at in VA.

Bad thing is when the government closes he doesn't get paid. He is still hourly. Middle son a manager so he is on salary.

If youngest didn't take hospitality and food management at school( for certificate not degree) I am sure he would be working waiting tables at most. He is taking nutrition now to get the second certification. If he could get through the math,English etc he could also get associate degree. We started there but he kept flunking remedial math(taught in a computer lab) . He didn't do well in format. He also had issues with second part of English 101. My son lives to write but not to edit or be told what to write. His writing wasn't answering what they wanted. He is super creative and would love to write books but....

I am up to run. Need to leave in an hour. Hope to run three hours today. Hope my friend Cheryl feels stronger. Her 1200 calories aren't keeping her going well on her runs. She is using same ap I am.

I have learned I need to fuel better before my runs and eat things like bread I don't eat during the week. I have to be so careful with peanut butter so I don't binge on it.

What has kept me successful is portion control and not binging.

Saturday.
On the clock.
Have a lot to accomplish this morning.

Their landlord has advertised on Craig's list, and they have had some showings, but nothing yet.

These kids of ours certainly don't leave us to live a stress free life - and husbands for that matter. MY DH hasn't called the doc yet.

Hoping all have a good weekend.

Cindy - DH STILL hasn't called the doc??!!

Debbie - If DS24 was here, I could help him, but being in Milwaukee and then NOLA I can't do too much. I have a couple of contacts there, but he's not being receptive to what they could help him with . . .

It is hard for kids to find jobs out of college depending on degree.

Cindy, doesn't your husband have a follow up appointment?

Have a wonderful dedication of Fletcher.

DH doesn't tell me what he should.
I think I should have a release.
He supposedly has a biopsy scheduled for Wednesday, but calling tomorrow to see if he needs it, should postpone it or what. He is in denial most of the time.

I need to get moving; iron my dress, get ready - we need to be out the door by 8:10.

Morning!

Another week in paradise!

I was very impressed with the church that DD and DSIL go to. So much so, that I would consider going there - basically it consisted of several very uplifting songs, time for prayer, a sermon by the pastor and that was it. Young team, but lots of ages in the congregation. I was touched to say the least.

Nice time at DD's - everyone stayed until 1, and DD24 and DSIL had to go to his house to talk to his parents - not sure what happened or what was said - they went there for 2 and didn't get on the road to Milwaukee until 5:30. Anxious to hear what was talked about - DSIL wrote them a letter, supposedly they wrote him one and then they read them to each other. I am glad DD went with him - I thought they may gang up on him.

Eating was a little off yesterday, but brunch was vegan and I didn't eat much at all - pancakes (2) Hashbrown patty's (1) fruit, vegan blueberry bar, coffee and a small bloody Mary. I did have two small left over pieces of pizza for lunch. I was hungry. Then a small steak, salad and spaghetti squash for dinner.

I meet with trainer this week. I really do wish I could fit a class in. Thinking maybe when it warms up I may look for a boot camp in the morning for spring/summer.....something I could go to before work. We will see.

Off to work.............

Cindy, you didn't eat much and all.

I gained back one pound if 2.2 I lost over night. Was expected.

Need to finish up here by 9 to leave for work 10:15. It is not easy but I seem to manage on 5-6 hours sleep.

I need a ton of sleep - eight hours is easy for me, but I usually squeak by on 7.
Supposedly you lose better the more you sleep!

i found this:

Understanding the Sleep-Diet Connection

The sleep-diet connection is regular fodder for diet books and magazine articles. Maybe you have even heard about the sleep diet, which suggests you can lose weight while you catch your ZZZs.

And it’s true, sort of.

“It’s not so much that if you sleep, you will lose weight, but if you are sleep-deprived, meaning that you are not getting enough minutes of sleep or good quality sleep, your metabolism will not function properly,” explains Michael Breus, PhD, author of Beauty Sleepand the clinical director of the sleep division for Arrowhead Health in Glendale, Ariz.

On average, we need about 7.5 hours of quality sleep per night, he says. “If you are getting this already, another half hour will not help you lose 10 pounds, but if you are a five-hour sleeper and start to sleep for seven hours a night, you will start dropping weight.”

Exactly how lack of sleep affects our ability to lose weight has a lot to do with our nightly hormones, explains Breus.

The two hormones that are key in this process are ghrelin and leptin. “Ghrelin is the ‘go’ hormone that tells you when to eat, and when you are sleep-deprived, you have more ghrelin,” Breus says. “Leptin is the hormone that tells you to stop eating, and when you are sleep deprived, you have less leptin.”

More ghrelin plus less leptin equals weight gain.

“You are eating more, plus your metabolism is slower when you are sleep-deprived,” Breus says.

Just something to think about!

I posted the video on FB - DD27 is in it a lot more than I am - she's cuter, so it's OK!
If you didn't know what I was wearing, you'd never even find me!

Cindy - wonder what they talked about for 3 hours!!??!!

Car didn't start this morning - battery was fine - but it wouldn't turn over!
So i took DD's car. Nice of her to leave it here!

Sleep would be good. Haven't slept well for a while. Wake up around 6:30 no matter what. Today woke earlier and went back to sleep. If I fall asleep early I wake after a few hours and this repeats most nights.

So, I am not sure if I like the chatting on FB thing.
No one comes here to post anymore. I can't chat during the week since I am at work all day.

MK - wish I could sleep. Nurse and I had that conversation - similar to above that you posted, however everyone is different and she acknowledged that. She said if you don't wake up tired and feel rested, then some folks don't need the 7.5-8 hours of sleep. I can't force myself to sleep!

Bitter cold again. Then we warm up and it snows. ugh.

Not sure what the kids talked about with DSIL's parents. All DD told me is that she was proud of her DH and that he told his parents that he is proud of her and not everyone gets their dream job at 24. She said they also agreed that they all are different. Boy, his parents ARE different. I still can't wrap my head around them telling him he can't come home.

Anyone do anything for Vday? I volunteered to babysit so DD and DSIL could do something this weekend. We don't. I usually do something for the kids.....

Well, have a great Tuesday all!

I chat when I can but still come here.

Don and I are going out Saturday night with two other couples. One is his board chair and her husband coming from Ohio. The other live here now but the wife used to work for Carol. I know them from conventions. We are going to Annapolis.

We can get 4-8 inches of snow Thursday.

My son leaves for Florida. I hope his flight isn't canceled. Isabella wanted to go to the beach for her Birthday. They are going to my moms till Monday.

Sad that Shirley Temple died. I always loved her growing up.

Need to color my hair! Off for three days.

Morning!
Made it to the gym and yoga yesterday, along with varied and assorted errands and the last shelf of the pantry finally was cleaned out.

Either we have a mouse or we used to - some of the chips up there are so old, who knows! Anyone, I think he's out of things to eat and places to sleep, and I put 4 mouse traps out, so hopefully ......

Cindy - DH tried to make dinner reservations for Friday night, yesterday!
Somehow he was surprised he couldn't get one.
I don't really care one way or another.
He wants to try for Saturday, but chemo is all day Friday and I'm afraid he'll be too nauseous to eat - so why bother!

I like the FB messages because they come up on my phone and I usually only see the computer twice a day - sometimes once. I feel more connected to you all through FB.

Did you get the video link? i was barely in it - don't blink - but DD24 was in there a couple of times.

DD's in-laws can go fly away. The kids are going to FL. They should just get over it!

Debbie - i didn't see that Shirley Temple died.
You're getting more snow? It's too cold here. -6 right now with a high of maybe 10 today.
We might see the 30's by the end of the week.
I really need Florida this year.

My middle son his wife moving into rental townhouse Saturday. Haven't asked for my help.

Hair color on. Need to rinse soon.

Trying to figure out dinner.

Defrosting lamb chops,hamburgers and chicken.

Making white bean chicken chili tomorrow. Will cook up burgers and chops.

Planning to run tonight despite cold. Waiting to hear back from third lady.

MK, I am mouse phobic!!

Hope your hubby isn't too suck with chemo. It really stinks. The whole thing!!
It must be hard for all of you.
I always thought part of your weight loss was stress from his illness.

I do have to say counting calories does work though.

Yesterday someone I thoroughly trust at work told me not to lose more weight. He is our patient rep. He is going like one of my kids.

I have upped calories. I even eat tortilla chips and had ice cream and a few pieces do chocolate last week. I am just watching portions very closely.

Eating my three egg(1 is just whites) omelette now with Swiss cheese, spinach and tomato.

Hair color needs to come out now so back later.

Not as cold here as there MK but in the teens.

Hope you catch your mice but don't tell me about it please!!
